Have somebody tried replacing the hex screws with screws locally available?
I tried a cheap hex screw driver on the screws in hk450 & stripped one  Sad  Bang Head.
It would be great if the hex screws can be replaced with ordinary screws of same size(length can be reduced to necessary, best is to find bigger screws & reduce it to necessary sizes).

Some spare screws should be in the kit, have you checked ?  Not too sure about HK ones.

OK Guys here is a comparison. I was recently unscrewing the screw of the tail blade holder on my 500. It was 1.5 mm hex. The screw also had grip on the outer edge so that I could unscrew it using a cutting plier as well.

The screw was tight and hence I did not want to strip my hex driver. Instead I tried using the cutting plier with FULL FORCE and I was not able to unscrew it. So I heated the screw a lot and then tried the cutting plier with full force and the screw didnt even budge.  Tongue So i decided I will use my hex driver, this time the screw came out like a butter.

Moral of the story. Hex makes life easier. They didnt simply choose hex over philip or flat screw. Hex eases the unscrewing especially on a application like a heli.

U should be fine using local screw. But going with a good hex driver solves most of the issues, especially if u guys plan to stay long with HK helis.. I learnt it the hard way.

I am very confused and fighting with two questions in my mind.

- Do I really like flying Heli as much as I thought?
- Should I really fly a big 3D Heli?

I am unable to get a clear answer and that is why I have kept the build idle for some time, while its almost complete and just configuring Radio & electronics tweaking is pending. I need to have a clear answer before I decide anything.

Just a heads up, If I decide to not fly big 3D helis (at least at this time), I will be looking for buyers for the entire kit. Please suggest Sad

AFAIK, I hated helis. I was a plane guy  Wink I loved them. Until I realized that it was tough to carry it around on my bike.

Thought I will get a heli and practice it till I get a car. Initially it was tough! I felt like I will never learn hovering. I had 100s of hrs of sim, still I felt it was tough. But I had nothing else to fly! So I had to continue with my 450 - FORCEFULLY! My 3rd flight was my major crash. YOu can see the video on my 450 build thread.

I had to replace most of the parts. PAINFUL! Not money wise but work wise.

After learning how to fly and realizing the 3D potential of an heli and seeing lot of 3D videos and knowing that I am standing out of the Easy flying plane group gave me a lot of interest!

Today I dont even feel like flying planes! If i buy planes in the future it would be an yak or an extra,  a bipe and a fast moving EDF. Just 3.

TOday I already have 4 helis with me.  Giggle

IF u are planning to sell the kit at a fair price, let me know rc crazy doc was interested.

Thanks Vinay, I will take some time before taking any action. And try to create my interest in it... the problem in SIM is that if it goes little far its almost invisible does that happen in real too? I mean I cannot make out where its heading, what orientation.

That is true for any sized model, that they get small and cause disorientation as they fly far, both on the sim, and in real life.  For helis like the 450 (which are small, NOT BIG!), you fly them not too far from you.  There are some tricks to improve the visibility (like painting the canopy with fluorescent orange paint with a black windshield, which is the best combination I have seen yet).

Believe me the visibility is worse in real life, coz on the sim the camera zooms as the heli goes far, but in real life there is no zooming  >Cheesy

The zoom is something you control from the sim settings, and I keep it turned off !

The settings cannot be copied verbatim from one heli to another.  Some of it can be reused, but not everything.

This video should cover your needs quite a bit.

Thanks Anwar... I looked at this video and this guy is using DX6 and NOT DX6i so its little different but yeah gave me much of the information that I had looking for. And then I cross verified with Bob Finless's CCPM config video... so far looks good... but maybe another 400-500 hours of Sim practice before I have enough guts to take it out in open Smiley

400 to 500 Hrs?  Head Scratching Then u will be taking it out next year.  Grin

What I suggest is that you should be able to do a FFF and be able to get the heli back and land it in front of you. THat is the time to take it out. The reason Iam telling u this is coz when I tried my heli I gave a little more throttle and the heli took off and went like a 100 feet away from me. Lucky for me rajesh was there   Grin
