Got the Heli Today, Booked on 12th of this month. Opened by customs but not charged.

It will be a pretty Long build for sure, still lot of spares and batteries to arrive. Trying to make the heli as safe as possible.

Configuration:

1)Hk500 CMT with TT upgrade.
2)Quark gold case
3)BLS 980
4)Turnigy MG930
5)ICE 75 ESC
6)Turnigy Typhoon 500 H
7)Battery yet to be decided based on CG will be around 2.6 to 3 Ah 30 C to 35 C
8)Airtronics 7 channel RX

UPGrades:

1)Head:
A)Everything between the main blade grips will be align - Feathering shaft, Thrust bearings, dampeners, washers. I have left the radial bearing as it is.
B)TIG 425 MM Z weave.

2)Body:
A)Main gears, autorotation gears.
B)tail gear set.(This has to be changed if Autorotation gears are changed. Else will strip).
C)Align horns on MG 930 servos.

3)Tail:
A)Tail rotor holder
B)Umbrella gears
C)tail shaft(won't match with align - going with stock)
D)Torque tube.
E)Slider set(to avoid vibrations if any).
F)Tail blades.

Here is the guide for a 500 GT build.

@ Rajesh /RotorZone:

The Z weave will not even come close to the quality of the Rotor techs you were using on the Atom. I can say they are 75 to 80% as good. But should be OK enough for the kind of flying most of us do.

MKS 8910 - I already have.

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8255

OR

Turnigy BLS980 - Yet to order.

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9980

Once I decde on the tail servo, I would be ordering batteries to match the CG. What do you guys say? I thought of S9254 earlier, But for 10 grams extra I can get a bls980.

I am seriously confused. The heli I am building should be seriously good performer. Grin

Rotortech makes some of the best blades out there, so 80% of that should be ok for a HK heli. What worries me about cheapo blades is the safety. Tracking and balancing issues are secondary concerns. If there are no reports about structural failures, then worth trying at that price.

Regarding the tail servos for 500 size, in my experience you need a full size servo on demanding maneuvers. A mid size is usable, but might feel sluggish once in a while.

The Align GP750 + DS520 mini servo combinations seems to work very well for me, and our local 3D master Ali. He puts it through enough grief to bring out any problems !

The fact is that I had got the 8910 for the 450 pro TT.

I would be anyway ordering either another BLS 980 or a 8910 (both almost same price).

Now that rajesh says +1 for a bls 980.

Anwar bhai, Considering the fact that price is not an issue, would a bls 980 be too heavy for a 500 size?

It would be increasing the heli weight by 30 grams. To counter that I would be increasing the battery weight by 30 grams at the nose end. So would increasing the 500 heli by 50 to 60 grams be bad?

I have no Idea what so ever regarding the weight to performance ratio. Head Scratching

Though I would be running a High HS for sure. Hence TIG blades.

Which online shop you have purchased from and which shipping agency is used? As I am amazed to see that 'Customs' are so nice and humble that they not only allow this heli but also not charged anyting. Head Scratching I was struggling with Delhi Customs from last few days and they were so adamant that this is not allowd by any law.
Anyways I managed them but I want to know which service (courier) was used in shipping?

These helis can carry some added weight without issues (in AP and other applications), so 30g extra is nothing to be worried about.  In fact, you should not need to add any weight to handle this small difference.

And these servos are much faster than anything I have used so far, and anything that I have seen being flown (live) by even people like Tareq !

I had that exact same combo in Atom and that is where my experience comes from. Could be due to difference in tail design.

See what balances the CG with the battery you are going to use. For me a full size servo was the right balance without adding weight.

And they are cheap too  Grin considering that a equally good futaba costs like 120 + USD and bls 980 out performs it. No wonder MKS servos are good.

Hence I recommend the DS480 turnigy servos on the 450 threads.

OK me order Turnigy bls980 once they are in stock. I have ordered the Trex 600 tail servo holder from HPross.

The performance of the heli will not be as good as tareq flies because the cyclis iam using are not s9257. its a mere mg 930, plenty enough for me.  Wink
I remember even gaurav was using this servo with a spartan ds760 on his raptor.

What end points (EPA / ATV / travel adjust) do you run on the rudder channel ?

I dont have the batteries yet! I will order them Once I have a flying 500.

I will be maidening it on 2 X 3s 2200 nano techs 90 C batteries, find the right weight to balance the CG and then order batteries. 30+ c for sure as suggested by u.

I can't say for sure without checking my radio, but I usually leave it near 100 and should be the case here too. Note that it is not a lack of piro rate that I see. The rate is not consistent, it is fine for 95% of the time, but occasionally it takes longer for the tail to respond. I saw a definite improvement in this with the servo upgrade.

Interesting, I will watch out for those.  What servo did you upgrade to ?

Also, what head speed do you run with ?  Do you run straight 100 throttle curves ?

Finally got part of the spares for the 500 along with the other Align 450 spares and Align stuff from Heli pross. Customs of 900 Rs was charged, pack not opened.

Shipping was cheap. Paid 21 USD for 1.571KG EMS.

Yet to get Gyros ESC etc from US (with brother still), Yet to get servos, tail servo, canopies, batteries from HK.

Wish Align was cheaper! A simple piece of plastic/metal costs SO SO much ! Shocked

Why are you getting the entire sets ?  Why not the boom, TT gears and torque-tube itself, with more pieces of the gears ? There are from HK itself, right ?

Ya all are HK, but HK does not sell separate pieces as of now. + in the event of a crash all the items usually go bad - the boom, torque tube and gears. each set costs 20 USD. Hope fully worth it in the long run.

A lot of the times, it is just the gears and possibly small bends in the tail boom.  Getting the gears alone would be a very good idea, regardless of the heli.
