Guys, some basic (silly  ) questions I had for the J500 build, I'll post those on timely basis as and when I progress with the build, here is my first question:

Its about the Main rotor shaft housing into the bearing bracket in the main frame, in few pics I saw the stoppage ring below the bracket and in some above the bracket, now I am confused - - can you guys please help me.... (refer to the attached pic - please pardon my bad drawing)

hope i dont confuse you more... as i have not built a JR heli yet
- trex and rave types the stopper goes above the main frame's top bearing (basic reason being the main shaft has to lock-in and there should be no vertical movements on the main shaft)
- furion types.. bottom stopper for the same reason as every heli

That is exactly where the confusion starts....if the stopper is above the bracket how will it stop the vertical movement ? but on the flip side if its below the bracket then the swash plate touches the frame directly...

The typical setup on the Trex etc style of helis looks like the picture below.  The main gear (which is bolted on to the main shaft, and has a small washer on top of it) prevents the main shaft from sliding up, and the stopper on top prevents it from sliding down. So it is locked from top and bottom.

I was only answering how it works for the first of the two scenarios pointed out by Sujju bhai (which is the Trex style). 

According to the HK site, it is on top... as per pictures here :

But when you look at the manual from HK, available here :

and see page 46, it is clear that the stopper is just above the smaller gear wheel (to which the tail belt is connected).

This is consistent with the JR "Super Voyager-E" build threads I quickly glanced at.

So anwarbhai, the final conclusion is that the stopper is below the upper bearing bracket inside the frame and above the gear housing the belt....right ?

Yes, from what I can see !

BTW, it is below the second bearing bracket from the top (and NOT the top most bearing bracket).

i think we are confusing the bearing bracket....there are only 2 bearing brackets one is at top and second at bottom which house the main rotor shaft.... refer to the image....

You are right, and wrong (at least according to the manual/pictures).  The stopper with grub screws are right above the tail belt gears, and not directly below the top bearing bracket.

I was wrong about a non-existant "middle" bearing bracket. 

So the question is, do you already have such a stopper just above that tail belt gear ?  In that case, there might be another one that is either above or just below the bearing bracket on top.  From the pictures, it seems like it should be just below.

there is just 1 groove on the shaft for a stopper, and I think it goes below the top bracket, coz if its put above the bracket then the entire upward force due to the main rotor would come only on the 2 plastic gears and pull the entire assembly upwards, i'll try to do it both ways and see which one best matches the other holes on the shaft (i.e. the holes housing the screws from the 2 plastic gears)

Also I'd like to tell everyone that though HK is claiming this to be a JR Voyager E clone, its more like the JR Vibe 500e with plastic parts.... After lot of research I found that JR has 3 models which are a lot similar:

1. JR Voyager E
2. JR Super Voyager E
3. JR Vibe 500e

The frame of HK J500 is lot like the SVE and Vibe 500e. The Manual HK is providing has lots of parts which are not included in the kit from HK, better use a Vibe 500e manual for assembly and upgrades...

Guys, I am still waiting for the replacement tail boom, Sujju bhaiya is going to get it for me when he gets back to India.

In the mean while, after lots of research in local scrap yards and hardware stores, I found a piece of pipe of equivalent weight, Dia and length to replace the dented boom I received from HK. I have completed assembling the HK J500 (will post some pics tomorrow).

I have received all of the following electronics from HK and will be mounting them on the Heli, in next few days:

-Hobby King 401B AVCS Digital Head Lock Gyro
-Hobbyking SS Heli Series 70-80A ESC w/UBEC
-Turnigy S3317M Servo (26g / 3.0kg / .14sec) x 3 - For Swash control
-9257 High Speed Servo 4.5kg/ 25g/ 0.07sec x 1 - Rudder Servo
-Turnigy Typhoon 500 Motor

I need to buy the 3000 Mah 6S 30C LiPo, will buy it shortly as running low on funds

I am planning to get a Airtronics RDS8000 tx / rx again in Jan 2011, again due to budget constraints.

A few questions for the nuts and screws on the bird,

1. Do I need to use loctite for Nylon Lock nuts ?
2. Do I need to use any glue for screws in plastic housing ?
3. I am using blue loctite for metal screws in metal, am I right ?

A few questions on installing the rotor blades,

1. What is the correct orientation of main blades, pics will be helpful.
2. What is the correct rotation direction of main rotor and rear rotor ? clockwise or anti-clockwise ?
3. If I dont have a pitch gauge, how do I adjust the Main Blade ?

most model helis goes clockwise and blade should have the tick end as leading edge

if u dont hame much experience setting up a heli u need a pitch gauge but to as a start u can set 0 pitch with putting a a rod or a allen key that  perfect fit in the bolt hole in the grip and line up with main shaft, make sure flybar is 90 degrees to mainshaft if u using flybar

The advantage of going 40 c is that u can charge them at 5C, or atleast 2 to 2.5 C safely.

Paint the canapy, white usually gets meged with the clouds and hampers visibility. Many people prefer yellow/flourosent green.

Your tail blades seem to be inverted (need to mount them after rotating them 180degrees).

sometimes this type of method is also used to guage the pitch (without using a pitch guage).. usually for a FBL system..

also i have seen some guys hang the heli vertical or inverted so that the blades are hanging on their own weight and then adjust your pitch curve or swash etc...

I'll be putting-up the servos, gyro, motor and ESC w/ UBEC this weekend. Now all I need is a tx / rx and a battery to take this bird to skies    and ya Sujjubhaiya is getting the spares for me when he visits India....

Planning to buy all that (tx / rx & batt) in 2011 as I have ran out of funds due to Income Tax planning & investments....
