Title: Need help setting up my Flysky 9x for Hiller 450v2
Post by: bhaveshsangani on January 09, 2013, 03:51:20 PM
Need help with the Radio settings for a helicopter.
I bought a Hiller 450v2 from RCBazaar.
Having difficulty with the reciever inputs, like which channel has the pitch servo. Then where does the gryo input go??
And likewise throttle curve, pitch curve and throttle hold settings. Please if possible need a detail explanantion.
Thanks in advance

Hi hellyflyer.... i have downloaded all the videos.
Went through all the videos. The issue is , Sujju sir using a different transmitter , I am using a Flysky9x. And i am a beginner with all the programming stuff when it comes to heli

Watch the videos by Finless (especially the CCPM part 1 and 2) - anyone starting helicopters should watch those videos.

http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=41692

Using a different transmitter brand should not make much difference since all of them will have ccpm swashmix, subtribs, ETA etc

http://www.rcdiscuss.com/showthread.php?42034-EXI-450-and-FlySky-FS-TH9X-Setup-guide hope this helps you cause i dont own tht tx ....but if u go about your tx and know where is what here is how u shoud do this fo flybar heli
1.Make sure all your linkages are measured correct as per manual
2.connect all ur servos to rx use above link for flysky setup
3.power on tx select type to helicopter(also make sure throttle hold is active )
4.go to you swash type and select 3servo 120degree mix (ever transmitter differs and number of swash setting differ always select appropriate swash type)
5.once this is done make sure all ur servos are moving right or else use servo reverse function or swash mix
6.once all ur servos are set and moving in the proper direction as per movement from tx sticks then put throttle stick iin the middle and set all three servos to 90 degree and level swash ,move upwards and set head and blade to 0 degree
7.set tail direction and gyro sensing ,gain
8.throttle cure ,pitch curve

Thanks guys. So far what i have done is.
Mode Helicopter,Mode 2, 3 Servo 120degree mix.
1. Installed the servos.
2. Neutralized them.
3. Pitch servo goes to channel 6
4. Eleveator servo to channel 2
5. Aileron servo to channel 1
6. Gyro to channel 4
7. Gyro (single wire) to channel 5.
8. Have set the Pit trim by setting the Aux Channel 6 to Pit trim
9. Have set the Gear switch to Aux Channel 5
10. Throttle curve and Pitch curve says 0 25 50 75 100

So far i have reached here.
What next.

disconnect motor ...make sure all servos are moving properly ..when u move throttle stick up all 3 servos should  move up if not reverse tht particular servo ....check ail and elevator movement when u move rudder stick to right the left servo goes up and right servo goes down if this is not happening go to swash mix if the value of ail is say +50 make it -50 then it will move right same for elevator if pull elevator stick down then elevator servo goes down and both pitch and ail servo goes up if this is not happ then do the same for elevator as mentioned for aileron if value is + make neagtive and if it is negative make it positive to get right movement ...if u move throttle stick if all servos move down instead of up change value in pitch in swash mix from +to- or-to+ to get right movement...once this is done now put throttle stick in middle set all 3 servos to 90 using subtrim assuming all measurements of linkage rod is set as per manual ....after making servos 90 next step is to check for swah level using eye or tool check if swah is level use subtrim to adjust  ....after this use pitch gauge to make sure blade is at 0 degree use sujjus videos to see how to do tht ...set all this at mid throttle stick do this frst when u get this right will move futhur

Shannon all check and done. Servo moving in the right direction. When i am giving throttle up all the servos moving up ,i.e collective pitch working fine.
When i move the aileron right , right servo going down ,left going up and the elevator servo going up. likewise if i move my aileron servo left.
If i push my elevator down, elevator servo going up , right and left servo going down. And if i pull my elevetor stick , elevator servo going down , right and left servo going up.

ok so next step is to leve swash and move up from here put throttle stick to middle set aside tx.... now check for swash level the swash plate has to be level chek from right side and front side to see any tilt in the swashplate use subtrim if there is a tilt if u have a swash levelr use that....from there move to setting blades to zero degrees dont touch tx at all set baldes to zero degrees using pitch gauge i hope u know how to measure using gauge if not check video cause typing this wont make any sense ....once u set your blades to zero pitch then move throttle stick full up measure pitch u should get 11 degrees if u dont go to swash mix in transmitter and increase value till u get 11 degrees pitch put stick full low u should get -11  .....after this is done you have to check how much pitch u get on ail and elevator again set throttle to mid stick now to check elevator let the right side of the helicopter face you and blade at 90 to heli body tht means from ur point of view helicopter head west tail south blades north south ....now set 8 degree on pitch gauge throttle has to be mid stick remember now move elevator to full up or down u should get 8 degree and -8 if u dont increase value in swash mix elevator ......to check aileron keep head of heli facing to u and blades also same in head tail direction ....move aileron to right or left u should get +8 to -8 if u dont get  increase value swash mix aileron till u get 8 degree ...now ur whole head is set up ...pitch and throttle curve next along with tail setup which gyro r u using post after u complte above steps

When i move the aileron right , right servo going down ,left going up and the elevator servo going up.

Should the elevator servo move when aileron stick is moved?

Hi Rajathv , not a pro in this , but as far as i have learned the elevator servo , pitch servo , and aileron servo all should move if you move either the throttle stick or elevetor stick or aileron stick.
Experts please correct if i am wrong.

Post by: Shannon on January 09, 2013, 09:07:09 PM
Ohh crap how did i not see that no the elevator servo should not move during aileron input  i think ur sticks are very loose so while moving ur aileron stick ur slightly moving in the elevator also so you are getting movement ...please check again elevator servo should not move on aileron input only pitch and aileron servo moves ..

Hey "Idle up" means stunt mode if you have a V type throttle cure in this mode the motor will run at full speed even at 0% throttle. Currently do don't have to mess around with this just let it be a linear straight line so even if you accidently flick the switch nothing will happen.

Get it as close as possible to lvl nthng can be exactly perfect in a heli in mechanical setup but get it as close as possible

Currently i am doing the swash levelling. Taking a real good time and effort as i am not able to achieve the best.

A tip, get the swash approximately level, fix the head and check blade pitch ranges. If you are not getting the proper + and - pitch range, you will need to readjust the servo to swash links and all your previous fine leveling efforts will come to naught. Once you are sure you are getting the required range, then remove the head and do the fine adjustments to get swash perfectly level.

Title: Re: Need help setting up my Flysky 9x for Hiller 450v2
Post by: Shannon on January 12, 2013, 10:50:03 PM
Its due to the tail rotor it displaces air as it spins ...thought heli is in hover still it requiers 8degree of tail pitch to compensate for torque of the main rotor so while doing tht the tail rotor displaces air to the right and pushes the heli to the left

Title: Re: Need help setting up my Flysky 9x for Hiller 450v2

What do you mean by drift? Is it :
1. Heli moves to the right/left
2. Heli rolls to the left/right
3. Heli yaws to the left/right

@ Shannon: How did you deduce that 8 degrees of pitch is required on the tail rotor?

Title: Re: Need help setting up my Flysky 9x for Hiller 450v2
Post by: Shannon on January 12, 2013, 11:12:46 PM
Well the answer is yes and no .......the thing is if u notice the heli actually hovers slightly tilted to the right in some helis it is noticble greatly in some it is not ..yes but driftcorrection is always needed left right back fort however good u have set your heli its always required

Shannon, I saw your video on youtube , setting the gyro(G560) and tail rotor.
I did things the same way you showed. The only difference is i have a analog servo.
The problem i am a facing is i get rudder movement only on one side. I mean if i give right rudder the head turns right but if i give left rudder nothing happens.
So i checked with the tail rotor and saw that the neutral position of the rudder stick is actually at the left extreme position. And thats why i dont get the left rudder movement.
Can you please tell me how to rectify it

Title: Re: Need help setting up my Flysky 9x for Hiller 450v2

Well 8 degrees of pitch is required to compensate the torque of the main rotor well this is what is calculated not only in rc heli but in full scale real rotor craft too ...well in a real helicopter it is measured exactly 8 degrees by engineers but for us rc pilots yere is what u have to do ....when u view the heli from behind from the tail u have to of set the tail pitch slider to the left by adjusting linkage rod or physically moving the servo to get the ofset ...some people have made custome pitch gaugeto measure this but i usually ofset the slider then hover if the nose remains in one direction its good but if it starts rotating i adjust the linkage rod and if it still drift tht is it yaws slightly one click of trim sort it out ...

Title: Re: Need help setting up my Flysky 9x for Hiller 450v2

Ok ill tell u from start ok reset the gyro... Once u have done this..disconnect the servo then power back to ok now select the servo type in the gyro.... After this power off the heli connect the servo.... Now power on the heli but do not move the heli or the rudder stick don't touch the tx at all.... Once the gyro initializes the servo will be In neutral position make sure the horn is 90 degree or get it as close to 90degree by removing the horn and setting it back again as close as possible to 90degree.... Once this is done view the heli from behind... Now the tail servo holder just losen it a bit so u can move it on the boom.... Now slide the holder on the boom to a position which will make the pitch slider exactly in the centre.... Once u know where u centre is.... Now move the holder so as to offset the tail pitch slider slightly to the left when viewed from behind once it is offset tighten the screws of the servo holder your done doing mechanical set up rest set up limits like the video.... And after setting your gyro please rebind the rxtx... Or the gyro will not initialize I had this issue and u have to rebind only once after setup

@rajathv8 drift in a heli is it moves to left right forward backward factors influencing this is the tail rotor CG and wind

Does it not depend on the final tail gear ratio?
If the main gear to tail gear ratio changes -> the tail rotor speed changes -> hence the pitch needed to provide a neutralizing torque also changes.

Title: Re: Need help setting up my Flysky 9x for Hiller 450v2
Post by: Shannon on January 13, 2013, 12:12:35 AM
The gear ratio Is  calculated in order to counter the torque of the main rotor at 8 degrees pitch.... Usually the ratio is set to achieve four rotations of the tail rotor to one rotation of the main rotor

There is also the diameter of the tail rotor tht matters some people use 700size tail blades on 600size h elis for better tail athority

Shannon, I saw your video on youtube , setting the gyro(G560) and tail rotor.
I did things the same way you showed. The only difference is i have a analog servo.
I think the reason why it burned was because it was a analog servo and you should have selected the frequency on Gyro 70hz to match analog servo type, another reason can be limits as you said the center position of the servo was extreme left
