One more...

The main blades are tightened at 0:55  ...  many inverted landings starting around 2:30.

Crazy stuff.
Doesnt these inverted landings, on the rotor head break the CF blades, bend the main shaft, or bend the flybar ?
I would suppose there should be a lot of damage done to the ball links too.

If you know what you are doing, and depending on where you do it, you will get away with small blade scrapes. Nothing major/serious at all.

Yep ,
I was fortunate enough to witness once such crash( mine) , Anwer was PIC and i had a failed tail  thrust rod failure in inverted practice, it was my best crash ever due to the fact simply because  I lost few sec in realizing and declaring emergency, he was puzzled too( I can't help it,I am crazy) and tried to recover , but instinct proved better where throttle hold went first, then turn straight action which lead to side impact, but i could  not believe my eyes when I saw my heli.....  hey ,it cannot be better than this. thanks Anwar, today I am better pilot than ever in spite of having 20yr behind me, so guys look for some one who can take care  of ur mistake..,  good  luck  and happy  flying.

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

It was a strange situation Smiley  Murali bhai was practicing inverted hovers with me as the trainer, and he had started holding the inverted hover for a longer duration than earlier.  All of a sudden, I saw the heli start to spin on its tail (as if a lot of rudder was applied).  Being the energetic person he is, my initial thought was that Murali bhai was trying to perform something he tested out on the sim ! Only when he called out that I realized something was wrong, and the heli had started to spin faster and lose some of the altitude at that point.  It was clear at that point that the tail was no longer being driven by the engine.

My instinct was to take control (release the trainer lever), then put the heli in "throttle hold", as that would slow down or stop the tail spin action, and attempt to do the best inverted auto as possible (attempting to land upright).  It almost worked, except that I could not get it fully upright, the end result of which was a side impact which only affected the main blades and the landing skids.  Not too bad for a Mayday situation while being inverted and losing all tail control. So useful a tool is throttle hold, that none of the head or the tail suffered damage, even though the blades were gone !

In hindsight, I should have probably tried to get the heli to be upright before hitting throttle hold, but then the spinning on the tail was getting worse by each split-second, so I will have to leave that for the next time this happens !

Here is Joe Marudo (the person who pushed me into learning more and more about helis) losing tail control and crashing a Trex 600E on our field couple of years back.

Throttle hold could have largely minimized damage, but due to a radio change, he hit the wrong lever Sad

On the first/Second video, looks like he has using more of his negative pitch than the head speed to land inverted to avoid damage!?

On the third video - OOPS that was a bad spin! By the way, what is the pitch curve for hold mode?

The first and second videos are purposeful attempts to land on the head !

And on the third, he hit the wrong switch, which took him from idle1 to idel2, instead of going to hold (he was trying a JR radio instead of his usual Futaba, so got confused about the switch location...   and JR did not do assignable switches, unlike Futaba).

Hold mode has no different pitch curve , it just releases the engine from engaging the rotor thats all, pitch curve remains the same as you have setup IMHO.

I noticed that Joe used the same pitch curve for all modes including hold, and realized that it is a good idea.  So I have been using that, and I have tried to put the same habit for everyone I have helped train.

Remember that it is unplanned autos where this will help most !

BTW I believe, practicing hitting the hold switch fast enough is one of the most important skills a heli driver should attain if he/she wants to have his heli long enough, So  far I have seen 2 (including mine) where  Anwar had hit hold switch fast enough to save the day/heli. first one was Trex700 of another newbie that had bad aileron horn( used wrong brand to wrong servo) , second one was in Trex600 ( second one in the same heli too, first crash was lose of orientation , lack of sim practice, no excuse  Sad( ) when torque tube failed. Both time it was my mistake as said earlier which took Anwar by surprise( did inverted in 20 days what can any one do with me!!:((() but the day was saved.  One more thing , the second crash ,  good & bad as it was/is,for it's side impact as it fell inverted  straight from  +100' , the damage was surprising..
1. torque tube failure ( cause of the crash), lesson learnt: never forget that you have tiger by tail, no mistakes are forgotten in high performance 3d airframe like Alien Trex600 :(o), practice , masters are not born, it takes practice and $$$... & lot  more,  unless you you are sponsored...
2. Tail tube bent down by 1-2 deg!! for the impact it had, is surprising, I expected more...!! like i said thanks Anwar Bhai, nothing in tail assembly was damaged..
2. flybar rod bend: useless except for dry dates purchase/exchange, but peddle was OK!!
3. Main rotor : scrap
4. two servos:  elevator ( lost both the servo mounting ears/what ever u call it due to impact momentum, sheared clear), tail servo lost one mount Sad(((
5. Landing skids : tooth picksss
Current status after 3 days: rebuilt except the servos ; servo cases are 12 $ each but not available local ::Sad; most of servos r available in servo city except my tail
(logitec 6000), hope I can convert my energy into some useful skills next weekend)
hope it was pleasure being with you as it was for me ,Anwar Bhai, I am trying!! ) , Jamal Bhai, it had tons  of fun flying your  flying wings in just 3 min. i Had a blast .. recovering from deep wing tip stall ,, c u soon next week end..

Have fun and be safe urself and for other

Main rotor = main gear ?  Missing teeth  on that ?

The servo cases are inexpensive, but very hard to find locally.

The first and second videos are purposeful attempts to land on the head !

I knew sir Wink I just highlighted the technique they are trying to use.

By the way the pitch curve for hold is -2 0 -10 or -10 0 +10 ?

You definitely need more than -2 for hold, to bring it lower at a faster pace.  So around -6 ir recommended.

For me, all curves (including hold) are linear around -12 to +12 or -13 to +13.

Anwar , did i miss some thing in hold setting? is there  another pitch curve for hold some were?

& Main rotor= blades , no gears lost  its tooth :0),  not even tail ( front and back), any way converted it to belt drive now.

Ok Anwar, I will set mine to -10 to +10 since my 3D settings are at the same. THough hold pitch curve is of least use for me for my current flying abilities. It is just to save the parts in case of crash as I barely hover 2 feets from the ground.

Most radios have a separate pitch curve for throttle hold alone.
