Title: Vibration on Trex 500 ESP heli after crash rebuild
Post by: tango on February 01, 2010, 12:28:45 PM
I have been flying my Trex 500 for about a month now. Sweet heli. It was my first build and it went together like a charm.  I am a bit of a beginner so I have toned down the heli significantly. I have the ESP version as well and am running the DS510 servos and the 401 gyro with the 9254 servo. I use 3000mah 40C Turnigy packs.

I recently had a minor blade strike and since then my blades were not tracking properly. Upon investigation I found that my linkage to the main rotor holder was bent. Also the ball link on the rotor holder was bent and I straigntened that out as well and there is still a bit of vibration. (usual suspects like the main shaft, feathering shaft and flybar have been replaced) I also found that one ball of my main rotor bearing was missing. Is that a possible cause for the vibrations?

Also do drop me a PM in case any of you guys have a spare set of thrust bearings, main rotor linkage ball set and the linkage rod set for the 500.

Cheers...

Haven't crashed the Trex 500 yet, so I have not started collecting part for it yet ;) (Hopefully I did not jinx myself!)

Did you lose a ball in the thrust bearing, or one of the main bearings on which the main shaft rotates on ?  Need a bit more detail to respond further.

If you can post pictures, that would make it easy.  A video would be ideal, that would tell us what kind of vibration you are seeing.

Any updates ?

BTW, which lipo are you using on your Trex 500, and what flying times are you getting from those ?

the lipos are a bit too much for the trex 500... i have been using the outrage 2500 - 25c and the turginy 2650 20c and some on 40 c(which is quite a tight fit in my canopy)... the 3000mah is a bit too much i think...
and let me check my spare box and if i have the spares i will send them to you, pm me your address..
and anwar with these lipos i get around 5 1/2 to 6 mins or sport flying (the trex 500 ones).. on my protos i get around 6 1/2 mins..

hi tango
any 'imbalance in the head will give vibrations,
have you checked you flybar is 'central' and 'still ballanced'?
any difference in the bearings in the blade grips could also upset the 'smooth running' of the head.
power up slowly 'without the blades' and check if there is any hint of wobble in the head,
then up to 1/2 throttle to check the flybar ..............heli fixed down is safest.... perhaps on a lazy susan  (turntable) or such because the tail may try to take over without the thrust from main blades.
