.....my 5th HLG/DLG project so far....only stray pics remain of these projects although all gave very encouraging results.

This one is a 40 x (6.5+1.5) inch constant chord plank with 'proper' airfoil wing. Provision has been made for a launch peg, but I also want to include a bungee hook. The fuse is just a coro-pod to hold the innards and the servo would be mounted on the fuse allowing me to experiment various kinds of wings of same dimensions with only two servos.

....hoping to achieve a WL of around 3.25 OPSF.

 some pics.....

.....now for the more interesting part.

Parameters for Location/type of Fin in order of priority:

1.effectiveness
2.ease of use
3.durability
4.AND construction method without too much of a weight penalty to achieve the above 3 parameters

...feel the only way to go is tip fins Grin.

This ALSO allows me to slide the wing forward/backward for CG purposes as the bungee hook would have to be static - of course this will require a few holes on the pod for the dowels AND the push rods would have to be fairly short so that its entirely a steel wire with V bends for further changes.

To arrive at the above, I have naturally referred several planes and experiences and felt another version would only add to the tribe !

......the pod accomodates 4xAAA and a 3S 610.

However, with the Lipo, I'd have to add an ESC and with a 3S 610, this results in an additional 23g, maybe just right to swith over in case needing nose weight  Grin

Any views on the WL of 3.25?

....my wire foam cutter gives a max. usable span of 24 in per panel.
This wing is 40in span - its hand sanded and is evident from The Snowfall on the floor.

Bungee Hook:

I came across few pics of bungee hook mounted using velcro. This is a HUGE + but I am unsure whether this will withstand the force of the bungee !!!

Unless the quality/total surface/both are good !

the term Plank is used to refer to flying wings with a constant chord and no sweep - just like a plank of wood. It usually has a short stubby pod to hold the stuff and more often used on slope flying. Several electric versions are available to choose from and the conversion is often simple.

come to think of it, it is not free flight indeed - it is a RC glider, so it should belong under the electric planes topic.
