Title: Flight of the TopSpin Jr.
Post by: Free Flight on March 18, 2022, 12:31:29 AM
This is a wonderful Simple Rubber Power Stick Model (SRPSM) kit . Nice laser cut balsa kit with prop, rubber, tissue. Also included are a good set of instructions, trouble shooting chart and videos to supplement both build and flying.

In my opinion, the kit has been put together to almost guarantee all new comers success and provide loads of fun. Follow the designers instruction to the letter. The video and instructions are complete. It is such a simple kit that you would like to finish it in a few minutes. But instead, I suggest that you take your time, square up things.

So while there a few more days left, join the competition. I highly encourage you guys to join and recruit your friends to do the same. Competition thread link below.

Attached below for your viewing pleasure is a short video of my first three flights indoors (we still have snow, rain and high winds). This was built from the manufacturers kit, no other materials were used. Trimming is almost done. When weather improves I will fly it outdoors and am quite sure that it will be an offering to the thermal Gods. No problem, build another !

Join, have fun and enjoy the build and fly SRPSM competition.

Being a participant, I would like to say that I have build the model.  Nice kit with pre-cut parts, needs only assembling.
Anybody can build it in no time.

Rightly said by the author of this thread, "freeflight" - instructions, trouble shooting and videos' supplement build and fly.

A good kit for any beginner just like me.

@Freeflight - Good flying and wish you thermals when you fly that outside.
Thank you for showing what this model can do.

Yes Top Spin is a good model for the novice. Got a kit from the contest organiser for testing its performance.
Agree with Free Flight. An easy to build and trim model. Make sure it is squared up correctly.
I had used trim tabs for elevator and rudder as shown in instruction video - but as FF observed- better to add tail weight to correct nose heavy condition - will improve glide when it dead sticks or loses power to stay in the air.
This flight was with a 3/32 loop - hook to hook length - 500 turns. Longer loop - stretch wound will give longer durations.
This test flight was at the indoor stadium at the Bundelkand University, Jhansi where I was invited to give a presentation/demo on basic aerodynamics as part of their Science Festival on 25th Feb.
Yes - join the fun - still time to register - get your kit - construct and participate!!
