Hi all Smiley
I got tired of studying all day and decided to build a gider with what I had on hand. Built one with some coro and a cycle spoke. Got about a 100feet with a hearty hand launch Tongue

Now having been bitten by the glider bug I have some questions  Grin

Is there any way of giving my glider a little more lift?

I did not take any measurements while making this, are there any definite ratios between the wingspan and the fuse that have to be maintained?

Does anyone has any plans for sub 15" gliders which can be made without using any exotic (Tongue) materials like carbon fiber or balsa?

thanks!
Trishit

scratch builder and DIYer

Good job Trishit Thumbs Up that glider looks great.
And as far as i know, gliders have an aspect ratio of 7~9:1
(Aspect Ratio= span/chord)
cheers:)

change the way you fly!!!

beautiful oneee Trishit......  Clap Clap Clap Clap.. what you could do is just add a small strip on top of the wing abut .5 cms width along the leading edge and she should give u more lift....  Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

VTOL - Vertical Take Off & Landing

hi trishit

there has been a lot of interesting work done by Kline and Fogleman on multi Step airfoils which might greatly help the glider to generate more lift

that is exactly what pradeep has also mentioned

here is the link if you wish to read up more on them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kline%E2%80%93Fogleman_airfoil

more importantly refer to the two pictures attached they shall help you choose the right the KF airfoil for the glider

just another note of caution due to the excess lift generated the nose of the glider is likely to lift up and stall so you might want to add a little bit more nose weight if this happens.

Thanks! I was looking into KF airfoils too but don't you think the wing would become a little too heavy having two layers of coro?(I am using 3mm coro)

VTOL - Vertical Take Off & Landing

you might also try an uncambered airfoil like the one on GWS slowstick if you are unable to source depron the airfoil on mr. moss is also a good example. also a polyhedral will help

Thank you all! I built another one with a dihedral wing and v tail. Flies quite well! Will post pics later!
