Title: Model planes from 1952
Post by: medicineman1987 on November 07, 2010, 08:19:56 PM
Hey guys, Prateek and I found these beauties at the house of an elderly gentleman in Panjim city. Apparently he bought them in 1952 when he visited Germany. They are in great shape even though they are so old. The box contains 2 fuselages (one rubber band powered and the other a chuck glider), a main wing and tail feathers. There is only 1 set of wing and tail feathers which can be fitted on either fuselage. The tail feathers slot into place and the wings have 3 wires jutting out which fit into the 3 holes on the top of the fuse. The wing is made of steel wire and is covered with some kind of rubber sheet (feels like the type cheap beach balls are made of). The prop and rubber bands are lost but everything else is in great shape including the original packaging!! The gentleman is interested in making them fly again, any suggestions on what prop and rubber bands to use? Also what do you guys think about the planes?? comments.. :)

A small mistake by aneesh that the planes are 52 years OLD and were bought in the year 1957/58

Woah they look brand new! Beautiful! Use tan sport and loop it to form two loops. Dont know about th prop though. Il be trying a symmetrical aerfoil on my foam rubber model next. Let me know if you get extra tan sport as i need them too.

The package says "High start Sailing Mowe" and " long flight, even in completely flat terrain". What a beauty!

Sadly reminds me of a similar vintage Veron's Rascal, that I inherited from my Grandfather. I built it, flew it and destroyed it, without realising its value.

+2 to VC
Please persuade the gentle man not to try it out straight a way. Its better he tried on newer Depron-EPO models and use these Vintage ones for static displays only. They are invaluable. I bet they would sell for at least $100 or more if put on sale. Many old German folks would have flown them and would like to get their childhood toys back!

It may be termed as vintage category I request you to preserve it for future generations to have a feel when aeromodelling was started

Request the original posters to copy the dimensions and generate a blueprint for those of us who would like or may attempt to make some thing like this with materials available now. The "cloth like" material that the wing is made of and with wire ensures that its not going to turn into match sticks when it crashes.

Pls take close ups of each of the model parts and if possible at least note down measurements for us to use.
