Hello All,
I am starting a thread which focusses on making models of Indian Railways in HO (1:87) scale. It’s my dream to make exact replica of real trains. Model making is my passion and can work for long hours to capture smallest details.

I am not a professional model maker but learned everything on my own and by searching for tips on internet on how to make great scale models and learning and applying these techniques. Using of CAD, laser cutters and 3d printing has improved overall quality of models by reducing errors, time requirement.

I started working on WAP-4 model and recently finished it. Same is available in thread Making of WAP-4 Locomotive in RCIndia.  But need to improve on it hence one more mock model which I will share soon.

Now I am working on double decker LHB coaches and recently finished making of its Fiat bogie in HO scale. For making bogies 3d model was developed in CAD and then 3d printer was used. Here is final output. Hope you will like it.

Started working on WAP4  static model for my client. Here are pics of cut outs. I will glue it make basic body shell of locomotive.
I will add more and more details to it.

where do you get the three views?

Here are tiny 3d printed sockets for headlights and marker lights.

Primer sprayed on the body. I will start colouring it. Bogie's are 3d printed and same will be coloured in metallic grey.

Painting done. It was tough but completed successfully. Hope you like paint job. Learned many things like how to use masking tape, paint brushing etc. ..  Now I will add small details like grab bars/ handles, windows, pantograph, headlights etc...

 Modelling cabin interior is almost done with tiny controls..

I was keen on adding black border to windows but everytime I failed. I even tried 3d printing the border and stick it in model but still it was not perfect. Then I tried printing border on clear decal paper and stick it and this time it is perfect.. hope you like it.

Where do you get clear decal paper? And which printer - ink jet or laser?

Thanks... I bought it from Aliexpress .    It's inkjet clear decal paper...
What I have learnt so far is clear decal paper works best on transparent and white background and white decal paper works best on coloured background. Inkjet does not print white colour so don't print decal with white colour on clear decal paper.
I am waiting for white decal paper to arrive so I can create custom decal for locomotive numbering etc.

Other than taking a sideways picture myself, there seems no option. I want to build indian railways models for my layout but here are no plans. That is what is stopping me.

My new project WAG-9..  Here is 3d printed CAB view. First test print. Hope you like it.

You can use 3d printing for the undercarriage and overhead parts, especially for mass production.
But for the body panels your current methods and materials are already producing excellent results...

Thanks sir, I am printing under carriages too.

This time I tried something new..  chassis are made from Laser cut STEEL plate to add weight and grip on track to increase traction. Looks solid... Hope you will like it..

Hi. This posting of mine is after a long gap. No particular reason as such.
Long back, about 4-5 yrs back I have seen an exhibition of Model Railways while I was in Brisbane for some time. What I observed was such events relating to model railways are rare or infrequent in our country. (Aero modelling etc., are in a different league). Would be nice to have such events once in a while would be most welcome, dear Shanthanu n pline..n all others.

Yes. I agree with you. We really need such events for railway modelling, aero modelling as well as boat modelling. This way more people will get attracted to this hobby... Many people here are not even aware of these hobbies and that is very sad.

Tried to replicate WAP-7 compressor in HO scale. Length of model compressor is just 2 cm. Hope you like the detailing.

I am an electric engineer by profession and can imagine the efforts you have been putting to bring it to this shape.  The Indian models were always at the back of my mind and I also used to wonder why the hobby is at such an infant level in India.  Maybe efforts like your will prompt in the local manufacture of rail models which will be better affordable than the current models available.  I wish you all the best in your efforts and shall be interested in knowing the progress.

I see in this thread person mentioned about Aliexpress for shopping train accessories.  I did check the site, they have wonderful collection and its cheap too.
My question, how much does customs & duties charge while receiving the items?  Is there a limit on amount for which there is no customs charges?
