I made DIY HLG plane with my own desgin but can't get more than 2-3 seconds from that plane as i made plane from theromocol (which is from theromocol plate).
Please suggest some other material which is easily available in market.
Thanks.

30 sec may be harder than you think.
Pl see thread of kiran rc.

To cross 10 seconds, you’ll need to get some balsa...

@taksh
As suggested by K K Iyer sir, you need to get balsa for your build, it takes an edge over foam/depron/thermocol due to its stiffness. Foam can flex easily during flights which affects it's gliding ability.

Come on Swapnil.
Don’t raise doubts for doubts sake!
This is not a long thread. Is there any restriction mentioned so far?

But since you ask, lighter than air materials not allowed

Please DO something.
Let us see some action.
Let us not be only full of doubts.

I don’t even know what polyfilm is.

Why are you guys asking “is this allowed, is that allowed?”
Has any material been prohibited in this thread so far?
The only materials NOT ALLOWED are those that are LIGHTER THAN AIR!

Start your attempt with whatever material you have. Only after you build a model and try to fly it will you realise if it is suitable or not.

One entrant is already test flying successfully, while others are still asking “allowed?”
BEST FLIGHT SO FAR IS 8 SECONDS...

Best wishes

I guess you meant plastic sheet (polythene?).

I will abide by rules, will not use material "lighter than air"

Balsa is the easiest, lightest and most suitable material for this type of model, especially for small size, say less than 24” span.

If you are thinking of using other materials, please go ahead and experiment.

A few years ago I built a 12” span wing with a depron core and glass fibre skin. Fuselage of 3mm carbon fibre rod.
Weighs 17gms. Should have used a tube instead of rod.
With light balsa for wing/tail and hard balsa for fuselage, it would be about 10gms.

The whole fun is in trying out your own ideas...

By the way, this model is based on the ‘Vartanian’ with which one Mr Leo Vartanian set a US record of 55 seconds in 1941!

Hand launch. That too indoors (in a hangar)!

Everyone who responded is offline  Bang Head

Would it help if I provided one or two plans to start with?

Or if I provided small quantities of balsa?

I had searched in my old stuff and located an article with a plan for an HLG called ‘Bulbul’ by Father Carlson in the March-April 1967 issue of Indian Modeller.

I was planning to scan and post the plan and article
1. Here, as an inspiration to entrants
2. On outerzone.co.uk as my tribute to Fr Carlson (whose Tich was my first HLG in 1967)

Unfortunately Golu, my dog, got jealous and chewed those pages to shreds.

RC Aunt, my better half, is attempting recovery/salvage.
Wish us luck...

Many of us may be newcomers to hand launch gliders, and may not have balsa.

We have to start with the size of the wing, tail, fuselage, the glue, and how to balance to get it to fly.

If you don’t have balsa, can you get a disposable dinner plate? This is like 1mm depron.
You will also need (fuselage) a 9-10” stick like a Jhadoo ki teeli (wallaka marthu kutchi for Tamilians)
And some way of gluing. Like hot glue. Or Fevicol if you can wait for long for the glue to dry.

If you have these materials, would you like a simple plan? For a model that will at least fly indoors?

To exceed 10seconds, you’ll probably need balsa.

If desired, I’ll post a (balsa) plan that can achieve at least 10 seconds.
And then others with more potential...

Pl let me know your views...

No, please don't share the plans sir.  At least not publicly, only if someone asks you in PM, let me and some others like me try it out.  Let us draw the plans.

@K K Iyer
I made plane with dinner plate but i can't get more than 3-4 seconds.
If you know any method to increase rigidity or hardness of the depron of dinner plate then please tell me
I am waiting for your reply.

Thanks.
