Will give pics of parts in the kit and weight.
You said tissue covering. You mean tissue is put over solid wing and then doped/ finished to very smooth coat to give least drag.
Also got a Sailaway from Aurora but never really trimmed it for good flight. Must do all that now.
Some other HLGs I got from Aurora are Tiny Tot, Tail wind, and some others. Ordered a whole lot quite some years ago for work shops. Some leftover in the carton. Now use them as demo pieces when doing Aerodynamics workshops that give an overview of various types of Aeromodelling stuff that can be indulged in

Sorry Pranav have not made a detailed study of effect of various tail configurations.
Guess it is a matter of design based on what performance the aircraft is being designed for.

A bit too early to discuss flapped wings, Y tails etc.
I can assure you that neither is required to achieve 30 seconds.
Better to simplify and add lightness

The intention behind this thread is to encourage entry level efforts, not high tech

Waiting for someone to post:
1. 10 sec test glides
2. 20 sec test launches
3. Full launches approaching 30 seconds

Once we cross that stage,
We can discuss Y tails, of which I have a little experience (see my earlier builds / videos)
And Glidiator can discuss flapped wings, of which I have no experience
And someone on this forum (I forget who), who built carbon fibre composite wings 2-3 years ago, may share his knowledge/ experience...

Forgot to mention that the Yellow Bird was doing over 60 seconds back in 1961

So come on guys, show us that 30 seconds can be done by ‘Made in India’
Theories and high tech can wait till that basic level is crossed.

Anyone achieving 1min before the closing date can claim the entire Rs5000 prize, leaving nothing for those attempting 30 seconds  Grin

Agree KK.
Basic proper camber sanding and weight reduction will improve performance significantly.

@KKIyer sir@Glidiator sir
The question regarding Y tail was just curiosity after watching video in post #77.

Currently i am searching for ballast materials any suggestions?

@pranav09
Ballast is used in gliders to increase the weight and hence wing loading.
Usually in hollow wing spar tubes. Often water in full size sailplanes, steel rods in RC.
You probably don’t need ballast.

Perhaps you meant nose weight.
Try plasticine, solder wire, lead shots, wheel balancing lead weights etc...
Even blobs of hot glue  Grin

@PranavK09.

Effect of Y-Tail.  Less drag due to no vertical fin.  Less AuW.  You may loose directional path s in case model has undesired turning tendency as in most cases free flight models do not carry moveable surfaces. Vertical fin provides directional stability.

@dreamliner
Perhaps you meant V tail?

Effect of Y-Tail.
Less drag due to no vertical fin. The bottom leg of the Y is the vertical fin
Less AuW. For same area weight will be same

I think there should be a new thread for empennage designs.

I think there should be a new thread for empennage designs.

Sure. Someone can start one. Or I will. But not just yet.

This is essentially a ‘flying challenge’ thread, to encourage attempts to achieve in India, duration goals achieved abroad over 50 years ago.

Theoretical knowledge is no use if it doesn’t produce practical results.

I’m not against theory. After all I’m the one who started posting tech talks.
But can we see some practical results based on what we already know?
C’mon guys. Show us some action...

@pranavk09
Nice, neat build.

Suggestions:
Grain of wing tips needs to be spanwise, else will break if tip touches ground
More dihedral

@KKIyer sir
After i glued the tips then i realised that the change in grain.and yes more dihedral is required.
I am going to make another again.

@pranavk09
You can save this wing by cutting off the tips, making a cut about 3” in from the new edge, and raising the outer part about 20 degrees or so.
Good luck with your experiments...

Yes sir will try that.
This one goes straight to some distance and then increases AOA and lose height and again goes straight.(stalls)
Like ballooning in flat bed planes.

Like ballooning in flat bed planes.

Huh? Didn’t understand that.

A nice floating glide depends on a combination of the tail size/distance from wing, decalage or difference in angle of incidence of wing and tail, and CG position to suit a speed just above stalling speed.

The first remedy for stall and dive is to add a bit of nose weight...

Later there will be other complications needing other remedies.
But we can tackle them one by one...
