While waiting for updates/ progress reports on this thread,
I’ve been working on this 15” rubber powered Druine Turbulent.
Put in about 25 hours so far...

Outdoor and scale rubber Power is a very satisfying pursuit too.
I am putting together a cute little rubber Power helo - "Ascenda" -. Am now making a collection of various types of indoor flyers that will add to the duration stuff.

A chance to attempt a 30 sec flight perhaps...

I was wondering will it be cheating if I use this method to get max unpowered flight time.
A lightweight airplane attached to a heavier airplane.
The job of the heavy airplane is to give momentum when thrown up. Thus max height.
The lighter one will come gliding down for max time??!!

It will be fair if only muscle power is used.

I wonder if the truth is that a 30 second hand launch flight cannot be achieved in India?

Forget about this challenge.

Is there anyone out there who has achieved or is capable of achieving a 30 sec HLG flight?

Or is this ‘Make in India’ just a hot air balloon?

Your consistent push made me make a free flight plane....
Sorry to see not much enthu but I took out some time on sunday, not sure when i would be able to try & tune it to fly.
Not sure of results either. Usually Balsa is used for this purpose & i have used some HD foam sheets lying with me.

Lets see how it works out. I would do it out of curiosity rather than challenge.
Whats your comment on 12Gram weight ? ( this is my first chuck glider)

Material --> HD thermacol Sheet
Aerofoil --> Clark Y ( by hand sanding)
Fuse --> Bamboo Stick
Glue --> 5 Min Epoxy ( yes weight issue but had no other choice as nothing to hold pieces in place)

In comparison to 20 Inch Stick ( powered).

Should fly well I think. As long as the wings don't fold

I am very much aware of "In air Namestay" by foam wings....

Notice I have put fibre spar in this chuck glider ... so it can flex but not fold.

It will fly, and quite well too, as test glides from shoulder height will doubtless show.
Then you’ll have to see if it is strong enough to take full power launches...

12gms is lighter than possible with balsa (unless you had contest grade, ie, <=6 lbs/cft)

My 12” span model with fibreglass skinned depron wing and CF boom weighs 17 gms.

Eagerly await test glide video.

Completed my RCGroups Build Off entry within tonight’s deadline.

Entries to our own 1min/30sec have an extra day, tomorrow being a Sunday...

AARGH, I FAILED.

But I learned two things:
1. A cash prize of 5000/2000/1000 is worthless
2. No Indian is even willing or capable of trying to achieve performance achieved abroad 50 years ago

Wonder if it is the lack of capability or inadequate incentive?
Maybe just lack of access to balsa

Maybe someone will sponsor Rs 1 lac for the first 1 min HLG flight...
