Where did you get the lantern?? Is it legal in india?? I heard it is illegal to sell, purchase or import and fly due to obvious fire hazard.

This was bought from Ahmadabad and was flown at Hyderabad flying field.

It is a huge field with nothing around except empty land.

So we flew it without any issues.

How much does it cost?? I have a friend in Ahmedabad. I will ask him to bring a few.

Why not made it's own. Its special tissue paper that can withstand higher temperature. I dont know that this is illegal. This is lit and flied on the day before Diwali at various places of India and now-a-days used in various marrage ceremony with firewoks last cession. But some objection comes when this resides in the flight path of take-off or landing as a few days ago, some bengali news channel will telecasting about that these comes in the landing path and this should be stopped (NOT ILLEGAL) [ Media people always knows more than specialized persons as they behave, what a yellow journalism.]

You may use Boric Acid with Rectified spirit to get Green Light soaked in cotton or similar inside crusible. There are other colors too. Sometimes, very thin pyro lancers are attached with this in string. On the day of Dashami of Jagadhitri Puja, when all 11 idols comes to the GuptiPara RathTala place, then Fireworks display starts from Shri Shri Vindhovasini devi (First Sarbojonin/Baroyeari ever) one by one locality and this sky lantern is one of the item. This display governed by CentraL committe headed by DM, SP (hoogly district) and others. So, this cannot be illegal (without a few restriction for special zone]. I have videography of the program. I am searching them for posting though this is not related to RC.

If anyone needs this special tissupaper I can arrange this. Vickramadityada (VC) can enlighten on this more. This is a vintage hobby. I still have 12 sheets of those paper left.

In last two years, I have found that my skills in making something  are no better than humans in stone age. So I have am strongly in favor of buying readymade.

Well, making one by ourself is one thing and buying and enjoying it is another.

If this was costly then making one by self could have been thought of because there is a lot of patience required and u cannot mess up.

If this is available so cheap in the market, why would one even think of making it.

But again, I am not discouraging anyone, there are people who love making things from scratch and there are people who feel making is too much of a hassle and buying it ready made is better.

Anyways, thanks Kalyan for the info, I personally would love to read more about this, please post more details, designs, how to make it, etc...
