Hi guys,
Finally this thread is booked for my first ever project build log. Have clicked a lot of pics starting from sealed box to RTF quad and a maiden video. Hope you guys enjoy it ,not really learning :D Because this is my first build too.

Parts used-
ST360 quad kit from Hobbyking
Kk2.0
Power distribution board
9xR radio with Flysky 9ch module
9x 8C v2 Rx
Plush 25A Turnigy ESCs

Had to pay Rs.2895 As custom duty~  Really felt bad for it :| still happy building the quad...wish it flies properly.

This project is good under 18k incl radio, charger and everything. Not really for fpv but for learning how to fly. :)

Stay tuned for the pics, takes time to upload guys.

Thanks,
Rahul

Do you get Quad Frame included in the kit ? or you will have to scratch build one ?? :/ i use carbon fiber rods from RC Dhamaka ... best damper compared to aluminium

I bought a frame. My next project(2weeks afterwards) will be a hexacopter.I am thinking of using wood for saving money..CF must be costly :/ and mounting it would require more parts and pre designed parts.

yeah wood has good damping property too .... the basic idea in multirotors is to get rid of vibrations ....either use a good frame or good gyros ... if you r using kk2 then no probs with what kind of frame u wanna use ... :) i used very poor gyros ..and hex are very stable compared to tri and quads .... :).

Okay, everything's working excellent. The only problem is all the motors dont start at once. I tried calibrating the ESCs and the kk2 esc calibration aswell. :| What to do?

Post by: h4xk3r5 on March 20, 2013, 10:25:25 PM
same here  ;D ;D ;D even with the quad .... i guess its in the code .... the 2nd motor ... (as in kk2 configuration) always starts first .... i tot its some glitch in the esc ....exchanged the motors and esc ... still its the same port ... i guess its the firmware :(

Should I do the firmware upgrade? Or let me first connect the props and maiden it :)
I will need to purchase the usbasp for that :|

Also, for the hexacopter DT700 are good or I should buy NTM prop drives?

Title: Re: Buildlog- ST360 Quadcopter by RahulVyas
Post by: h4xk3r5 on March 20, 2013, 10:45:37 PM
well upgrading is always good .... but i recommend you have fun with your gizmo before screwing it up ...:P lolz .... btw if you are from delhi then u can buy usbasp from rcelectro.com just 450rs :) good service:) for hex NTM goes good .... DT700 series iz for tri and for good response .. NTM has lots of power in it .... and nobody will expect a hexcopter to do a summersault :P so NTM is good to go .... btw any motor will work fine ...:)

Okay buddy, do PM with your contact details and a small list of motors that can lift a hex of AUW 2.5kg :) Thanks.

Okay, everything's working excellent. The only problem is all the motors dont start at once. I tried calibrating the ESCs and the kk2 esc calibration aswell. :| What to do?
upgrade to 1.5 firmware on kk2 board and then go to Misc. settings......there u'll find something called "lowest throttle" (don't exactly remember)  :headscratch:
anyways so what you do is, increase that number until all the motors spin at once
 :hatsoff:

oh thanks adityaamg :)
really appreciate your help.
But with this the motors will start a high speed? o.O

What to do if you dont have a kkboard but the program running is a copy of kk ????  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: made a custom board copy of kk1

i have a kk2 laying around but i am actually waiting for my motors to arrive for the quad i am building. :'(
i think yes the motors will spin at a slightly higher rpm than normal, but its okay. i have seen it on youtube
 :hatsoff:

He is saying that one of his motor always starts first ..... thats not a problem ... ones in flight it will be stable :) ;D ;D

Rahul i saw your video, you have to properly mount board on the frame first and then calibrate sensors by keeping your quad on the flat level surface before any test. If you put it on uneven surface it might not send pulse to all motors together. You have to set throttle range on each ESC individually and then together by connecting it to the KK2 if problem persists.

The two coloured arms are for helping know which is front of the quad, so I suggest put yellow arms in front and white in back rather than the cross you have done.

Post by: Rahulvyas on March 21, 2013, 10:00:33 AM
Thanks both. There is lack of space so confused :|
I will use colored props for that...no worries about the orientation. :)

@Dharmik sir- Yup understood that. Now searching for space to mount the electronics. literally no space is available.

Tried to use this material for making my landing gear as temporary but they are  just of no use.

Then came up with this.. and its super awesome.. really great.

for soft landing its cool . . . but for hard falls wont it be putting pressure on the frame ends ?

Title: Re: Buildlog- ST360 Quadcopter by RahulVyas
Post by: Rahulvyas on March 21, 2013, 07:43:15 PM
I will do soft landing :) haha, I mean I will try to land slowly if possible.. Actually I would be flying my first air vehicle(this quad).
What do you suggest to use? I really want to not exceed 150g weight for landing gear.

Title: Re: Buildlog- ST360 Quadcopter by RahulVyas
Post by: DhruvChavan on March 21, 2013, 08:33:37 PM
hahah first landing is never soft. even if you have alot of simulator practice, and this is your first so i suggest put vertical blocks of foam, so it does a soft land and doesn't come in between airflow. i have had my bad landings in beginning :p 2-3 times then you'll get a hold of it.
And most important, never turn off throttle directly :p i did that as i panicked as it just started ascending faster and i was testing in my room, but had foam in landing gear so not much of damage, just one broken pvc motor mount plate and a scratch on end of a prop :p

One of the more popular home brew landing gears are those squishy sponge balls (usually yellow with a smiley on them). Just push them on to the ends of the arms. For a lighter option you may use some sponge packing cases, the kind they ship most electronic items in. Glue them on to the ends.

Post by: Rahulvyas on March 22, 2013, 06:45:31 AM
Glue sure? HOt glue you mean? Because I used hot glue gun with these wooden landings and then came off. couldnt even maiden it. :|
Any other option for holding it with the frame? Thanks..

Rahul nicely done.. :)
Please change the position of arms, The yellow must come together as well as white, How can you know which is the front part while flying.?
So Do correct that..
And Using sponge smilies as landing gear is also fine as Suggested by lastrites... It will look good also.  :) :)
All the best

thankyou sir.. glad you liked it :)
But I didnot understand how to bind it properly with the frame...glue wont work as per me. any other suggestions?

Rahul hot glue is the best way, It may not work with wood.. But will work with these sponges...
Go for it....

I flied it to a height of about 10-15meters, but as I was in my home's garden, I couuldnt fly any longer and had to land..its toooo fast, cant handle it anyway!
What to do? a small stick throttle change makes it too difficult to handle.

Rahul it flies good,  {:)} {:)}
Be in mind that slow and steady wins the race... Hover it for several minutes first before taking up..
And also try to fly it low will make less damage while crash...
