Title: Comparing Emax XA2212 vs MT2213
Post by: shashaxk on February 14, 2015, 08:14:14 AM
Hi Guys,

I am building a autonomous quadcop prototype and have some tight budget.
I have got 2 choices for motors:

Emax XA2212 980kv vs
 or
EMAX MT2213 935kv

Please suggest which one should i go for.

Also using individual ESC would be better or 4in1 ESCs are better?

Thanks,
Shashank

Welcome to the forum, shashaxk  :)

Selection of motors solely depends upon your Estimated All Up Weight (AUW) and Motor to motor distance.
And 4 in 1 ESC is cheaper than individual ESCs by few 100 bucks . But once a ESC fails beyond repair in a Quattro ESC , you have to change the whole set - which is costly . Still Quattro ESC is cheaper - and allows a tidy Installation .

If you post your required payload, estimated AUW , Endurance, and Motor to motor distance , I can suggest good Motor - Prop - LiPo combinations :)

If you are tight on budget, why don't you go for any of those quadcopter kits from rcmumbai, or quadkopters ?

Thank you Sooraj.

Estimated AUW would be 180-2000gms, m2m distance ~800mm, flight time 15-20 mins in hover mode.

I did looked at the kits which are providing Emax XA2212 with 4in1 Esc.. hence this post :)

Damn, you cant use a 2212/3 size motor on a 800mm quad with estimated auw of 1800-2000 grams for a 20-30min hover.
You need those pancake motors for this job

As said by Nitesh, 2212 motors won't be efficient enough to provide the 30 min flight time with such a big quad - this motors will work good up to 600mm Motor to motor .

For a 800mm Motor to motor and 20Min Hovering you have to look for some big , efficient motors . Turnigy multistars are the cheapest option .

No they are not, turnigy multistar are horrible there are many options you can check some build threads on rcg.

@rcrcnitesh so i assume then you have first hand experience with these "horrible" motors?
