Title: F450 quad
Post by: Rcjabalpur on June 05, 2017, 08:04:34 PM
Hey guys decided to get into quads , i fly airplanes but cant get the time to fly them now . I have no idea how quads work , most of the quads that i have seen were on the f450 frame . I have ordered an F450 frame and would need help in deciding what the best setup would be . Please suggest tge following.
1 - Esc
2 - Motors
3 - flight board (?)

I have a good amount of spare 3s 2200 mah batteries which i would like to use , so the power setup should go around this .

Please be kind enough in helping and guiding in this build .

hello,

450 size is a good platform to start with, its big enough so you can put many different types of flight controllers and accessories on it.

It'll require a 900KV or 920 KV motor and subsequently a 30-35A esc , following are some motors you might use :

ESCs:

keep us updated on your progress, have fun flying

regards

Flight Controller :

very beginner friendly : http://www.quadkopters.com/product/flight-controllers/kk-mini-multi-rotor-flight-control-board/

A little complex Fc:

Apm is hard to setup to get flying perfectly and takes some tinkering.
Kk board doesn't make sense to me. Many beginners use it, not the greatest fc.

Naze and f4 board are acro boards, you might not get the type of flying you expect.

For the purpose of a rock steady easy to setup fc, go for naza lite with gps which should set you back 7-8 k.
You can later switch the electronics to a better, cf frame onto which you can attach a gimbal and camera.

Also, go for sunnysky x2216 880kv
And buy 40A ESCs.

The 2200mah packs might not have enough C rating and would puff up.
Get 4s lipos. 3000-4000mah and appropriate C rating (35C or more. )

The f450 frame is a bad frame, not much space on it and a clumsy build.

Look for a tbs discovery frame or a clone of it.
I think Quadkopters was selling a clone frame kit.

Why dont you use kk2.1.5 fight controller?,i know it is too expensive, but i would recomend it for beginners because it has a screen, which is easy to use,you could change layouts easily, and it even has four buttons on it,which makes it like  a mini cellphone to use.

@rishabh
Not sure as to how much money i want to put in this , i cant even say if i would be for a long run in quads . Would be looking forward fir a budget build to get a hang of it . Have shortlisted the same motor as you have mentioned. Would be going for a kk board as its is cheaper , would also be interested in using the batteries that i have with me .

Would be using the kk only , looks easy to program and easy on the budget.

Another question - Why do these quad motors come in cw and ccw ? We can make any motor cw or ccw by swapping any two wires and applying the corresponding props , or am I missing something? .

cw and ccw motors .. they mean the thread direction of the screw .. its best to ccw thread since you can put normal lock nuts ( right hand ) to secure your props ..

They are sorted as cw and ccw on the basis that how their screw thread is. If it is cw, the prop nut would be threaded on to the shaft  by rotating it cw, and vice versa. Some manufacturers list cw and ccw as the way the motor will spin, so read carefully. You always want the prop nut to tighten by rotating it in opposite direction the motor is spinning and the purpose of it is that, if the prop nut gets loose it will tighten itself and not flyaway midflight.
