Title: Good new Flight Controller for 250 Sized Quad
Post by: Inv3nt0r on June 16, 2019, 12:03:04 PM
Hello all,
I have built bigger sized quads and hexa with Pixhawk before
I am planning to build a new 250 sized quadcopter. I just want it to for FPV and normal flying. No freestyling or FPV racing as of now.
I can see there are tons of options out there in the market for flight controller itself. I want suggestions from some experienced people who are flying such small quads. Since CC3D and Naze32 are out of updates now since STM32F1 is not supported by the latest firmware from many like CleanFlight and BetaFlight.
I was thinking of "Omnibus F4 Pro" since it has lots of hardware features, great sensors, and support by great software that I love, Ardupilot. What are your views, have anyone used this with ardupilot? Or any new flight controller that you have experience with?
Thank you for giving time for reading and replying.
Regards

I do have a 210mm quad with Omnibus F4 pro v2 and INAV. It flies great.
But if you are ready to scarify NAV features such as pos hold, alt hold etc.. then you can flash betaflight to same FC and it should fly much smoother.

Btw, if you are planning to buy a new FC and don't mind ordering from banggood, then Matek F722-SE is a great option.
It does have good features such as 5 uarts, soft serial, baro, current sensor, rssi, sd card etc..
It only costs 500 INR more than Omnibus f4 pro.
I have not used this FC. All above are based on reviews from internet.

I would suggest Kakute F7 AIO if you are not using a 4 in 1 esc,
OR
 a kakuteF7

Best firmware for STM32 based boards? like, in terms of reliability and smoothness in flight

Betaflight is very smooth, again no autonomous flight modes.
INAV has autonomous flight modes, but flight movements are bit restrictive (like you are in angle mode always)
I have no experience with any other firmwares.

Yeah, I saw that INAV is forked from cleanflight with added GPS functionalities. But I didn't know that we always stay at angle mode. You mean to say in acro mode?
Is that the same case with cleanflight?

In INAV, when in autonomous modes, quad stays in angle mode always.
