Title: Help me setup my first Quad correctly.
Post by: xNitin on April 26, 2017, 09:31:59 PM
Hi,
I am into heli and electric planes. I bought a S500 quad kit and a Thunder QQ flight controller to venture into quadcopters. I am a newbie in terms of setting up of flight controller board

I think I am 90% close to completion.

Here is what I have achieved so far.
  • Binding of Rx and Tx
  • Separate calibration of each motor/esc pair by connecting it to the throttle channel in the receiver. Each motor/esc runs fine and respond to high/low throttle
  • Setup the motor/esc pair with the flight controller board according to user manual
  • All four motors are armed and disarmed by moving the throttle stick to right-bottom and left-bottom respectively

The problem is that only one motor responds to the throttle input. If I increase throttle, only one of the 4 motors speeds up, which will obviously flip the quad.
I am using FlySky TH9x Tx and Rx.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks  :hatsoff:

Do the other motors produce the initialization beeping sounds after connecting battery?

If yes, then you may need to check the signal connections to the FC.

Post hi-res pictures of all connections and/ or good quality video (battery connection and later).

@xNitin Sir,
1. Are the ESCs calibrated?
2. If you are using an accelerometer, is it calibrated keeping the quadcopter on a horizontal even surface?
3. As indicated by Swapnil Sir, check the connections. Also, Check to see if the motor numbering and motor direction is consistent between what is shown on the FC configuration software(eg.LibrePilot, Betaflight, etc) and what is physically connected to the flight controller.
4. From the FC configuration software(mostly under 'motors' tab), when you raise the input to the motors, are all the motors, starting to rotate at the same time?

Just for our information, what flight controller firmware(eg.LibrePilot, Betaflight, etc) are you using?

Remove props, arm the quad and lift one end of the quadcopter by it's arm. If the motor(s) on the other end of the quadcopter starts to spin up then there's nothing to worry and its working as expected.

Ideally if the flight controller detects the surface as level all four Motors should start spinning at the same time.

Can you tell me which esc(s) are you using?
If you are using blheli ones, update the latest firmware on them in blheli suite,
Also calibrate your accelerometer on you fc,
Calibrate your escs in FC conigurator eg- betaflight, cleanflight etc.
Make sure you level the quad while calibrating your FC.

Check the above mentioned things also check if you have loaded the correct Type of layout in your FC!!!

I rechecked the connection, turns out, the AER(Aeliron, Elevator, Rudder) connection was wrong. I fixed it by checking everything carefully.

Broke 2 props flying indoor, but still, happy.

Good to know that you fixed it. I feel good that you broke only two props flying indoor. But do not try to fly anything bigger than 210 size indoor it may cause serious damage to property. Also try to fly in open place and try to land on grass so that your quad is not subjected to high stress and break something else.
