Hello All!

My name is shreyas, and i am new to RC flying. I want to build my first multirotor and have been suggested a hexarotor . I plan to use it for some experiments like swarms, image processing , mapping, security etc.

Can you guys please help me? looked through the forums and a bit overwhelmed with a lot of information. I have a budget of around 25k. I would like to build something which would last.

PS : I own a few 3d printers .

Retreat, Hell!

Hey Shreyas!

I'd suggest starting with a simple quadcopter. You don't need a hexa for the things you have listed.

There are a lot of tutorial videos available online about building multirotors. It takes time to make sense of everything but in the end you'll be able to avoid a lot of mistakes.

Get an F550 frame with 2212 size motors running on around 30a ESCs, controlled by Pixhawk or Naza FC

Not sure if you have much experience flying a hexacopter, but it might be a good idea to buy a pre-built hexarotor to get the feel for how they fly. The JJRC H20 is a good small cheap fun one you get for pretty cheap. I came across this list https://www.sp4mm3r.com/top-hexacopter-drones/ of hexacopters as well.

In any case good look with your build and keep up updated on your progress!

RC

Bro,  if you are into quad hobby,  then hexs are okay.  But what you say sounds like you are needing it for the professional  side.  Fyi quads are more efficient than hexs for the above mentioned cases.  So a TBS discovery frame should be enough and don't go with the f450 frame. It will be in budget of 25k without including the camera.  And if you want it cheaper,  go for used motors, fcs,  telemetry,  escs and things. Used stuff in rc lasts at least 2 decades if properly used.  If using used parts then 25k will give you a very good quad.  For fc Naze is a bit easier than pixhawk.  But the capabilities of pixhawk are endless. Just YouTube pixhawk drone and you will see.

Hello All, thanks for your suggestions.

After careful considerations, i have decided to go with a QUADcopter with Pixhawk FC. I am still not sure about what radio to use. Also it will be great if someone can suggest me the brand OF ESC, motors and battery to go with

Hello all ,
I now have a 450 frame m with 880kv avionics motors with 1150 props, plus xrotor 40a opto esc. I am using 5200 wolfpack batteries and a pixhawk FC - clone Smiley

Thanks for all your inputs. Please do suggest me if i can improve on something here ( without significantly adding to costs )

The setup looks fine.

But I'm just a little skeptic of the company that you use. I personally do not have any experience with them. And I've heard bad reviews, that's why. Anyways, since you've already purchased, you should give it a try.

Get a Ublox GPS module, preferably a neo M8N. The price for that is not high, considering the rest of the items.

Since it's a clone, I suggest opening up the FC and see if there's a protection (against MF noise) to the IMU module(s).

And just to make sure, you're using a 3S pack, right?
