Anyone in Bangalore who can help me tune my APM 2.6? And even with the trimming. I have to trim it to the maximum to achieve good stable flight. However I will use Autotrim and auto tune. So, someone form Bangalore can meet up with me and help me with the tuning process?

I stay in Padmanabhanagar, very near to Banashankari. So if you guys are out here in the locality please do give me a call on 8884851639. I have to provide a demo at my college but this S500 quad with the APM is not yet tuned. (I'm worried)

Cheers.

Trims shouldn't be that far away, please do check if your RC is properly configured, some firmware might require you to re calibrate everything. Auto trim is basically holding the arm position for 15+ seconds and taking off in stabilize mode. Make sure you DO NOT HAVE dynamic range turned on while doing auto trim. Place a box on the floor and hover the copter over it making small adjustments, while in auto trim mode. This will get you a cleaner trim as opposed to doing it way up in the air (mind the turbulence though). Do it in invervals of 10 sec adjustments, 5 sec observation until you finally have the right trim. With APM you shouldn't have any hardware trims and let the FC take care of it.

If you have a 7ch controller, use the 7th one to select "tune/auto tune" flight mode. If you have a 6ch, simply connect the 6th from receiver to 7th of APM. You MUST have the copter on stabilize or alt-hold before you flip the mode to tune, otherwise there's a 90% for it to malfunction. While tuning make sure there is absolutely no wind, I'd do it in a large closed auditorium. Run it for 2 minutes longer than usual.

Hi. In case of APM whatever the factory set value comes that one is good enough for stable flight. But it is always advisable to AUTOTUNE with APM. First try to upload a fresh firmware through  GCS to control board. After that try to connect the board with GCS and check out the correct version of frame(quad, hex, oct etc). Then try to calibrate the Accelerometer and Radio with Control board. then go the settings and un check the PRE ARM check. Lastly try to calibrate the compass. Now your vehicle is ready to fly. but before that check your motor pin layout with respect to board and direction of motor rotation. now you can arm and make a flight. Also check if all the motor are rotating same time or not. If not you have to do ESC calibration. You can do one by one esc calibration separately or all at a time with APM. Also you have to make a note your propeller must be balanced and motor or frame vibration should be dumbed because vibration is the another reason for making your flight unstable.

If you are still facing the problem you can post your log value here so that we can help you out or you can walk in to our store EDALL HOBBY. we are glad to help you. Thanks

A few more things if you plan to do it yourself(which I highly recommend - you would need tuning each time you crash or make structural changes):

DOs
  • Calibrate every sensor/accessory (accelerometer, internal and external compass, radio controller, optical flow sensor etc)
  • Update to the latest firmware(doing so after calibration sometimes require re-calibration)
  • Center the trim on your transmitter for all the directions before arming and calibration
  • Flight mode should be on stabilize or alt-hold
  • Repeat auto trim in intervals, until perfect balance
  • Fly indoors, but you need to have a respectable distance from ground to avoid turbulence

DON'Ts
  • Trim/Tune in wind, nothing more erratic than this
  • Activate any flight mode other than stabilize or alt-hold while on auto trim/tune
  • Use a half empty or low charge battery
  • Use an unbalanced craft(it doesn't need to be perfectly balanced though)
  • Use dynamic range
  • Use channel mixes on transmitter
  • Fly normally
  • Take off in auto TUNE mode, it has to be toggled mid flight on stabilize/alt-hold

Now each time you do auto tune or auto trim, after you're done selecting make sure you land it and then disarm it. You should also wait a few seconds before taking off again and let the values set.

Don't forget to disarm in auto tune mode to save values and disarming without auto tune mode will revert all changes(auto tune values discarded).
