Title: KK 5.5 Flight controller
Post by: sooraj.palakkad on December 17, 2014, 05:05:27 PM
This KK boards where the first flight controller boards I got in my hand , (Thanks to arun.sreelakam) Actually these was collected to learn some flying before I make my own multywii board.
But it turned out to be impossible to make a maiden with these board then, because of the different F/W and H/W problems.
In fact I had collected 3 of these ! One HK V2 board (Clone of KK5.5)Which I bought First, from arun eattan, And all I could make with it was breaking a prop and getting some cuts in my fingers. :banghead:
So I got the other two KK 5.5 boards again from arun eattan, One had a broken yaw gyro and the other has a damaged IC (mega168) .
I put the yaw gyro breakout from one board to other and Also had to replace the Micro controller IC .

After all these tweaking and F/W changing and updating - NOTHING HELPED TO GET A MAIDEN :banghead:

That lead me to buy a KK 2.0 board  - which served me great :)

Now as I have given my KK2 to a friend and my multywii is still in progress I decided to give another try with the KK5.5 .
So today morning I started with loading the v4.7 Xcopter f/w - while Increasing throttle the quad would swirl to either Left or Right - I thought it was some trimming or yaw gain setting issue - but few hours of turning the yaw pot and trimming gave nothing but a damaged YAW pot :banghead: .
Once again replaced the Yaw gain POT from the other board.

After this I loaded the Minsoo kim V2.3 f/w (This too failed last time I used this board)

This time it actually FLEW ! I was surprised that this board worked - After little trimming and Gain pot adjustments - this flies almost well -  But can't compare to a KK 2.1 or 2.1 :giggle:

This work is mainly intended to be a help to guys who are struggling with these cheap KK 5.5 control boards , If any one is interested I can share what have I did to make this board Work.

P.S  Videos of test flights will take a while as I have to get to college to access High speed Internet :)

Well, can't say this board is bad after the fine tuning of gyro gains and transmitter trims :) .

But flying with self level on KK 2 and flying with this board really differs .

KK5.5 is nothing but a Pain.
Specially when KK2 boards are so cheap now.

BTW,  :hatsoff: for the hanger

Great idea with the clothes hanger landing gear, looks professional.

As bhavesh sir said, kk2 has become quite cheap nowdays and with the circuit  diagram available freely people can make one, kk5.5 and older boards will only lead to frustration.

Kudos to flying with it successfully

Yeah there are simple open source flight controllers like, Multywii, Aeroquad and CC3D, multywii being my favorite. People can easily make their own flight controller from these designes or there is cheap off the shelf alternatives like KK 2 , CC3D, Naze32, crius .

But many newbs are buying these kk5.5 for their first quad because this still is the cheapest flight controller available out there :banghead: I personally know few people struggling with these boards.
I collected these damaged basic flight controller boards from arun.sreelakam for trying my hands on it before i make my own flight controller . But at first tries I couldn't make it work.
So I bought KK2 . But now as I have no other things to experiment , planned to experiment with these junks again - And finally managed to make one work out of the few I have (By interchanging and replacing the damaged parts :) )

The main problem with these boards are outdated or incorrect information and lack of proper guides - in fact i diverted a lot from the original KK 5.5 manual for making it work :giggle:

KK5.5 is nothing but a Pain.

well till this day i also thought like that - but now I don't  >:D >:D

BTW,  :hatsoff: for the hanger

you mean the landing skids ?

The idea for using shirt hangers as landing skid was suggested by akhil eattan (Akhilzid) - all credits to him :)

Landing skid is not the only possibility with hangers, see the quad pic of akhilzid (@Akhil eattan - don't know whether i am violating any copyrights  >:D- But credits to you :) )

Here is pics of the organ donor  :giggle: and acceptor :)

I had to replace the IC , Yaw break out , Yaw gain pot and two capacitors on the now working KK board  :giggle:

Well at least the work was worthwhile  8-)

In my first post,

After this I loaded the Minsoo kim V2.3 f/w (This too failed last time I used this board)

Sorry, It was not Minsoo Kim v2.3 (Infact there is no such a version :banghead:)
The correct one is Xcopter V2.9 XXcontrol KR by MinsooKim.

Sorry for the mistake.

Can i get a help in tuning up my kk blackboard v5.5 i flashed it with "+" configuration firmware v2.9 by minsoo kim.
Problems i am facing are like quad isn't starting up with a stable mood it always try to lean in unpredictable directions

this can mostly be fixed by trimming (if the direction to which quad leans during takeoff, is always same) . But if the flipping direction is random, you have to go through gyro settings and you may have to check the response of flight control to receiver input and also to sensor values, by holding your quad above your head firmly with around 20 - 30% throttle .

Title: Quad/Multi guidance

@sooraj.palakkad,
Can you post a "Sooraj's Tech Talk" starting from basics of quads/multirotors?
And gradually increasing the complexity.
It will be of great help to quad newbies.

I got my first quad flying after only 2-3 days of head scratching and research.
But there are many newbies struggling far more than i did.
One member even thought i was an expert.
You know why?
Because i looked at his video carefully, and pointed out that his props were pushing air upwards instead of downwards.
He had not even realised this!

So,
There may be many who can benefit from your guidance!
Regards.

Suraj

will you please share the said fw here?

You can install the KK multicopter flash tool , with this software, it is very easy to flash f/w to the KK boards.
The said firmware is also available directly through the flash tool.
Anyway the firmware HEX file is attached. The file is saved as .jpg, to be able to attach here. you can download it, open with picture viewer and then save as .HEX format to be able to use it.

Noticed this post just now... Thanks for suggestion , Iyer sir.
well tech talks are beyond my capability, with out enough theoretic knowledge !
anyway I am trying best to post whatever new things i found here in the forum.. will continue that for sure.

Thank you Sooraj.palakkad

i'm using kkflashtool developed by lazyzero.
I downloaded it now. I will update the fw to my board after a  while as that board is installed in my quad that is i built for sweepstakes, once the quad is considered as successful build.

CHIEF.

i have a kk 5.5 board and i can programme it by putting the yaw port at minimum and then connecting the battery and within few seconds it is done with a couple of blue lights flickering twice.

now when this is done i bring the yaw to max and both pitch and roll are 50% all the time.....then when i try to arm it thru my flysky 6 ch remote it wont work.................

after being guided by someone i got my hands upon the usb programmer and this again i can install ......i mean cant even make the software for the usb to install.............

kindly guide if it can be done without f/w uploading or if no then kindly guide what to do.................................

i am desperate to see it leave the ground.

Its better you upload correct firmware , that suits your configuration , before doing anything else. As you already have the USB asp , its a matter of minutes.
Download lazyzero kkflash tool first
