Hello guys. I'm new to this forum. I'm designing a hexacopter for college project work. The total load of the copter is around 5kg. Can u suggest me which motor and propellor blades is best suitable for my project? I've calculated each motor should carry a 1.6kg at full throttle. can we use the 3 blades instead of 2 blades which helps to create a more thrust force?

Hi dharanistark07!
Welcome to the forum!

Not to demotivate you in any way, but have you previously worked on any type of multirotor or flown one ?, The reason behind my question is that a hexcopter with a weight of 5kg is a big setup which requires alot of flight experience along with alot of experience to build it, and lets not forget the investment that can cost a lot ( above 40k).

My suggestion to you would be start small with a 450 size quad which has a maximum weight of 1.5kg ! It's easily available and a good platform to learn how to fly!

Now let's get to business!

1)For the frame , if your going with a custom made one then it's good,

If your are looking for buying one then look at the tarot T960 or the ZD850

The tarot can take up to 18inch props and the ZD850 can take up to 15 inch prop

2) a two bladed prop is to go with , three bladed prop will give slight more thrust but will draw more current. A two bladed prop is commonly available and low cost compared to a three bladed prop which is less common and expensive.

3) for a hexacopter that weighs 5kg you will have to use a 6s lipo !

4) motors :

1) tarot martin 4008 with 15x5.5 folding props
2) dual sky XM 5015 HD-6 390kv with 16x5.5 props

You can even check with Gartt motors, sunnsyky motors and T motor

There is alot of charts to read through and to be tabulated!
So can't recommend alot of motors!

One last thing majority of your parts are going to be imported which will add alot of cost to your project!

That’s good advice.

I find a lot of college projects to be over ambitious, mainly because the participants have no prior experience of flying either a multicopter or even a fixed wing RC airplane.
A look at SAE/Boeing results over the years shows that Indian teams score well on paperwork, but often ZERO on flight score. Because they can’t do a successful flight.

Please avoid this trap. Get some flying experience before you start on 5kg hexacopters!
Best wishes for your project.
