Title: Lets make a T-copter(DIY)
Post by: arun.sreelakam on March 02, 2013, 01:02:22 PM
I was planning something which is very exotic for a few days and ordered some parts, So it will be boring till They reach me and mean while decided to make a T-copter, Was having some motors and esc..
T-copter is my favorate among multirotors.. Gone through many threads and all  to collect some datas and tips on making one.
And here is the build log not yet finished but almost finished the body part...
And of-course it will be putting in the sweeps  ;) ;)

First of all my electronics
motor: 1000kv with 1047 or 9047 props
esc   : 20A
Lipo  : 2200mah 35-50C
servo: Some metal gear
Flight ctrl : KK multicopter v5.5(black board)
And may be some keychain cam and all..  ;)

Using wood strips for the arms and fiberglass for a centre plate( Just for supporting the structure)
 >:D >:D

And Some more pics of testing the electronics after the flashing of KK board..
Done lot of experiments and reference To make the motors to start atleast :giggle:..
Then the next problem occurred that uneven response from motors, Fixed that by calibrating the esc's individually..
and the time is 10.30pm.. ;D

Went to sleep and woke up at 6am
note: (Sorry anwar bhai newspaper boy made a mistake i think didnt get today's newspaper)

And Started my work with the yaw mechanism, i made my own mechanism using some old sketch pens and some bearings..
Also a 2" bolt and some nuts(looks stable) :headscratch:
some pics

:thanks: veloci and I am doing my part of build, But need help from all of the members to make it fly, Hope you guys will.. :help: :help:

Title: Re: Lets make a T-copter(DIY)

And made a 4mm hole in the handle and tightly fitted 2 nuts inside that and poured some superglue 8-)
Now the i can screw in and out the motor easily and very much stable... ;D ;D

And fixed all other motor and fixed using zip-ties only, but better than screw i think
now the total weight is 350 gms including 3 motors.. :salute: :salute:

And here goes the completed yaw mechanism.. Working nicely... Need to replace the wire with cycle spokes this is just temporary..
 :) :)

And simply assembled everything for checking AUW...
Coming around 660gms(Need to add landing Skids)  8-) 8-)

Arun,
Although this question was directed at Adi, but led strips on the arms is a yes yes, maybe a strobe light at the end of each arm.

@girish bhai actually there is a secret behind that question, i contacted adi today and there was a talk regarding the led strip thats why specially dedicated the question to adi.. and cetainly yes yes will add some strips, But only after i learn to fly :giggle: :giggle:

@ roman, Sweeps yeh certainly yes but more than the sweeps these are my dreams... Got an opportunity to build one and i am doing thats  it..
Dont know how many more but certainly one is remaining For sundaram sir..  >:D >:D >:D

It will definitely enhance the thrill...!!

nice build arun, i really like the new yaw mechanism that you have added

And simply assembled everything for checking AUW...
Coming around 660gms(Need to add landing Skids)

660 grams including battery motors and ESC :o :o

landing skids will add 50 grams more i guess, but still i am dead sure that it will be withing 750grams thats fantastic work buddy {:)} {:)}

All the best for maiden

@satya bro thanks a lot... Yes i am expecting around 750gms.. 8-)
Landing skit will be installing tomorrow..  :)
After that need to do all the adjustments, And maiden soon after your props reach me.. :)

simply great Arun {:)} {:)},

I donot have any experience on these so plain and basic Q : how about the length of each arm, does it need to form a equilateral traingle & how do you balance all that in flight

will make my own "some...some"  day  8-) :P

Title: Re: Lets make a T-copter(DIY)
Post by: arun.sreelakam on March 02, 2013, 10:19:57 PM
@flying brick: Thanks for that buddy, Yes it must form an equilateral Triangle in order to balance and the CG points must be of same distance from all the motors..
It was easy for me to calculate with this calculator...
http://lloydhassell.brinkster.net/rcgroups/t-copter%20dimensions%20calculator.html
Download it will be helpfull for you Thatday..  :P :P :P :P

Title: Re: Lets make a T-copter(DIY)
Post by: girishsarwal on March 03, 2013, 11:43:20 AM
Arun, this is simplicity at work. I am following your build diligently.  Total noob in copters so please excuse my dumb questions...when  you say equilateral triangle,  wouldnt an isoceles provide a good representation of distribution of weight so the boom length can be adjusted to compensate for the weight of the front members and motors and better fore aft balance  :headscratch:

Title: Re: Lets make a T-copter(DIY)
Post by: arun.sreelakam on March 03, 2013, 02:02:44 PM
@girish sir This is my first ever copter.. And less experienced that you in this field for sure so forgive me if i said anything wrong,
As you said isosceles triangles, which can be made with many length and angles, When increasing the length of the center hand the triangle will stay as isosceles but it will be difficult then to find the CG on that...
I think equilateral will be easy for a Tcopter..  :headscratch: :headscratch:

And installed the landing gears and a canopy to protect the electronics from crash, Looks like a wires one but gives good protection..
Soon trying to build a  more realistic canopy..

Landing skid made up of old umbrella structure...  :giggle: (strong enough with two screws and some coil wonded and hardened with super glue..  >:D >:D

Arun that comparison is incorrect. Iam still lesser experienced than you in copters. I still havent made one and you already are planning to maiden one... I get what youre saying...sure but it will be worthwhile to experiment with different designs...

Sir Experiments are always  awesome but as we are big beginner to these rotors i think we must go behind the successful design first.. :giggle:
Well it will be possible to make one as you said, And we will do that one day..
Nothing is impossible..
