I suffered my first RC related injury today. Quads when not handled properly are very dangerous! My Tx was low on battery, but since I was just setting up my quad in my room, I ignored it. So I put the props on and just slowly throttled up(5%) to see if they were in sync(it is hard to do that without the props on). The Tx battery died just then and the quad went into full throttle and into my face. I had to almost wrestle it to the ground and disconnected the battery with the motors at full throttle. I am posting this so that no one repeats my mistake. I only suffered a ruined t-shirt, a few broken props and two deep cuts but it could have been a lot worse!!

You have to program a failsafe, if your radio supports it. It is always a good idea.

Secondly, ignoring a low TX battery level is asking for a lot of trouble.

Yup agree with mr anwar even if u have a low battery though not recommended go use at that level .the tx rx should have a failsafe so even if the tx looses power or there is a signal faiding the rx will go into failsafe ...if u going to spend years in the hobby spectrum futabaa recommended .....

OMG that is dangerous!

Coincidentally i too suffered a RC accident recently. I was tracking blades of a 450 Heli on bench. There was a piece of plastic (from the Turnigy blade balancer) lying on the bench.
Due to the air pressure created, the piece of plastic got lift up (sucked) into the spinning main blades. From there, that piece of plastic went straight into my face. It was so instant, that I didnt know what happened. Although, I could feel something hit me. As soon as i felt my face, I saw blood on my fingers. That area on the face swelled up after 2 days. Anyway after few days it is OK now.

well slimier accident happened with me on my Tri ... i was trying calibrate ESC with props on.

Ignoring the user guide .... its was clearly said NO props in manual!

to check if  got calibration i open throttle ... i thought board is not armed so props will not move.

but very unexpectedly tri jump on my sofa ... i got one deep cut on my hand..

luckily my 1.5 years son was not around otherwise ..  i might have leave this hobby :(

Almost destroyed my Quad recently, as I tried to demonstrate its stability,tried to fly without calibrating it first. It took off and veered left rapidly beyond control. Dashed against a tree and resulted in just a broken 8X4 prop. Had it veered right, I would have been in trouble!

KK2 board - always calibrate and check level settings before you fly.

VC, HK 2.1 board remembers calibration right? or should go it before every flight?

Absolutely Rajguru! + 1 It remembers the levels that you calibrated into it the last time that it flew. So, calibrate and re calibrate before each flight. Or else, it will power the motors sequentially as it remembers.

For example if the last time that you flew was from a flat (totally flat) ground and then you attempted to repeat the same feat from an undulating ground - it would remember the last setting and behave accordingly.......

working with props on is truly dangerous business ........ specially when synchronising in insecure surroundings .... like bedrooms and worst family  around  ....

i must suggest to add propsavers instead of props for all off field work (especially syncronisation), or may be just leasing u rc dog  where unexpected throttle shoots could be troublesome....

Incidentally, i even had a few cuts , just a  day before. though not deep , but sufficient to trickle free flow of blood.....  :(

i was careless enough to reverse the throttle function instead of a reversing servo.... my catalina zoomed to full throttle before it rammed into me.....

Prop saver is good idea but but not all motors support it. Like DT 750

u just need to watch rotation.... just stick a electric tape to the motor axle.... its more imp to save ur fingers....

i had a bad injury.. may be first in india.. lol... after 10 mins of normal heli flying .. came in for lading..and was hovering just 5 feet away before touch down.. the elivator a arm snapped mid flight and the heli came straight back hitting my legs. 

i had 4 stitches in my left leg brocken bone. .both legs injured.. this happened about a month back and i am still limping .   i cant say that completely it was my fault but surely better to check each and every part after every flight to avoid such accidents.

of course it was ur fault .... havent u heard of leg guards they use in cricket....... blaming ur rc heli silly :giggle: :giggle:

jokes apart.... i think this hobby has lots of unseen dangers... we need seriously take more precautions :-\ :-\    

@paladugu_sujith  : What size of heli were you flying and what material was the blade made from?

carbon fiber blades.. raptor 50 titan se. a nitro heli .. rpm at 1500
