Title: PixHawk Versions
Post by: Comet on May 06, 2017, 10:39:03 AM
I plan to build a hexacopter with the Pixhawk flight controller. I was researching it up and found the Pixhawk 2.1 version which comes with a CUBE and EDISON option. Also online on eBay I found a Pixhawk 2.4.8 as well. However, the data available was not comprehensive and I have the following doubts.

1> What is the difference between Pixhawk 2.4.8 and 2.1?
2> Can the Pixhawk 2.1 be paired with a companion processor? I am looking at pairing it with the Raspberry Pi.
3> Can the Pixhawk 2.1 Edison version be paired with the Raspberry Pi?

1> What is the difference between Pixhawk 2.4.8 and 2.1?
- the new pixhawk cube comes with redundant power ports, redundant imu, multiple gps as standard..

2> Can the Pixhawk 2.1 be paired with a companion processor? I am looking at pairing it with the Raspberry Pi.
- Yes it can.

3> Can the Pixhawk 2.1 Edison version be paired with the Raspberry Pi?
- yes with mavlink communication, you can follow the ardupilot documentation.

Isn't the 2.4.8 version newer than the 2.1 cube version?
The IMU supposedly has three accelerometers and three gyros. To the best of my understanding a three-axis IMU needs to have 3 accelerometers and 3 gyros - one for each axis. So how is it redundant?

And currently, we are developing uav's on pixhawk 2 platform... the connector setup & quality is outstanding... no doubt we had to purchase the here gps separately. tho i think now there are different packages they supply. you can also mod your old m8n gps connector for compatibility.

Thanks for the fb group idea.
I am interested in knowing more about your pixhawk 2 build specs and experience with it. Request if you can share it here, with a brief overview of what all parts you chose and why.

When we use the add-on board (raspberry pi) for additional functionality:
Can raspberry pi board communicate with pixhauk simultaneously with GCS from ground?
Is that we could configure different port number for GCS and raspberry pi?

Thanks
