Hello fellow RCers!

I own a Syma x5c-1 and I'm planning on doing a FPV upgrade to it and I need serious help!

ALERT: I'M A DENTIST AND A COMPLETE NOOB WHEN IT COMES TO CIRCUITRY.  Huh?  Help Me

I have sent hours on various forums but none of them has a noob friendly guide on making FPV, just circuit diagrams.

First things first, my planned arsenal:
1. Syma x5c-1
2. 808 #16 v3 ( on it's way )

http://www.banggood.com/808-NO_16-HD-120-Degree-Mini-Camera-Module-7g-p-82197.html

3. FPV Tx and Rx, I'm thinking of buying these, any opinions?

Tx - http://www.ebay.in/itm/Boscam-Mini-FPV-Tx-Only-7-3g-5-8Ghz-32Ch-200mW-TS5823-2km-range-/262068305841?hash=item3d047cffb1:g:0~4AAOSwT5tWJ8ZM

The Tx antennae plastic case can be taken off to reduce weight?

Rx - http://www.ebay.in/itm/Boscam-RC805-FPV-5-8G-A-V-Audio-Video-Receiver-RX-W-Channel-Number-/262093482188?hash=item3d05fd28cc:g:Z2IAAOSwA4dWJ8a1

4.Rx battery:

 http://www.flipkart.com/rotobotix-zippy-flightmax-2200mah-25c-lipo-battery/p/itme7qpwnvgueauh?pid=ETYE7QPWDGHRYTGF&ref=L%3A-2822683680726692793&srno=p_3&query=lipo+battery&otracker=from-search

Now, in the Flipkart description it says " 4pin-Jst-Xh Charge Plug : 2pin-Xt60 Discharge Plug"
That means It'll charge via JST and for output it has to connect to Xt60 ??
The above mentioned Rx says "1 x power supply (JST) cable" so i'll have to change the Flipkart battery discharge connector into JST?

5. Monitor ( plan to use my laptop as I have a usb AV capture card.)
6.Anything else?

- I have seen many setups wherein the internal battery of the 808 is removed and is connected to an Ext which powers the Tx as well, advisable? Or can the internal battery supply the tx as well? (flight time is 7ish minutes so even if recording time is lowered, not an issue for me) I have few 1s 3.7V 600mAh 25c batteries, can that power up the TX?

- In the following image, number of wires are coming out from a single connector of which I believe the red and black ones will go into 1 connector for power (?) and off the green. blue and yellow wire, the yellow wire transmits video (?) I believe we'll be stripping the USB cord of the 808 and attaching this video out from it into the video wire of the Tx (?) Also, the supplied USB cable with 808 is a usual mini USB cable or I need to purchase another spare?  Huh?

Waiting for help from you guys.  Help Me Help Me

I can't answer all of your questions but I own two Syma X5C-1s and its lifting capacity is not that great. With 808 camera and all the Tx and antenna on the quad, are you sure that could be lifted? And even if it could, the battery life would be severely depleted.

I did have a sot of FPV setup with a 2.4GHz camera upgrade for Syma X5C but that interferes with the Tx signal at greater distance.

I also have that RC805 Tx but I haven't prepared it yet to connect with my Mobius camera for my Cheerson Cx-20 quad. That antenna is not used by serious FPV enthusiasts. Taking off the plastic can reduce the weight though. Generally a cloverleaf antenna is used but that would be heavier.

Regarding point 4, XT60 is used both to charge as well as discharge i.e It is also used to connect it to a quad's power supply and to charge in the charger. Jst-Xh is the balance plug ... its basically used to measure the cell voltage while charging on a balance charger. I think you can also power something through that JST-XH plug too with a compatible female connector.

I am coming back in a while to answer some of the rest.

The Boscam Tx that you mentioned runs on 7-24V. You can't run it using the 3.7v syma battery.

Also, for attaching 808 to Tx, you need a video out USB cable which would add to the weight.

So I think serious FPV is not feasible with Syma X5C. Maybe you should get atleast an X8C or something better or even make a mini quad with FPV.

I am not sure about the connectors used in Syma X5C. I think it could be either Micro Losi/Walkera connector or Molex connector 51005/51006

Hi, thanx for taking time to read and post your valuable feedback.
-As for the 808, it's 17g and I can strip and cut the usb cable to expose only the wires sans the insulation and reduce it's length as well.
-Power for the Tx, damn thanx for pointing that out, totally missed it. How about using a step up regulator? Like this dude? )
- I don't think weight will go beyond 35gms. Can always replace 808 internal battery with a smaller one and shave off 10gms and the casing as well.

- how about this VTX? http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__69294__AltitudeRC_5_8GHz_25mW_Nano_FPV_Transmitter_FatShark_Compatible.html

Can the pre mentioned BOSCAM receiver work with this?

A 32 channel receiver should be able to receive transmission from an eight channel Tx. But can't confirm 100% because the Tx frequencies of the 8 channels have not been mentioned.

Step up regulator..well never thought of that. It seems from the video that its workable.

Even after everything you have to consider how much battery life would that provide. Also flying FPV indoor is not worth it. FPV is interesting only if its flown outdoors. And finally you should consider the cost-benefit ratio for all the contraption.

I wouldn't be flying indoors for sure, x5c is rather big and I don't trust my skills  Tongue

These Tx by Boscam are pretty cheap and at 3gms it won't put unnecessary load.

will get a professional to do the soldering (Again my soldering skills are crap)What's the amount of soldering needed??
A boscam Rx should connect to it.

Thanx for all the help guys.
I'm thinking that instead of trying to load my poor x5c, i'll rather make my own quad and then continue this project for fpv on the diy quad.

That would be better. X5C is wonderful but it has its limitations. These days mini quad frames are available specifically for FPV (and racing). You can attach FPV to bigger frames too.

All the Best.
