hi

I'm planning to build the Hobbyking X666 Glass Fiber Quadcopter Frame 666mm with Turnigy Multistar 20 Amp Multi-rotor Brushless ESC 2-4S.

is that ESC correct choice for this??

I request the multirotor guys here to suggest me the suitable motors for this either from hobbyking or local hobby shops.

 Hats Off

The SS980kv are very good motors, but for the frame mentioned, I would suggest a lower kv motor. The SS980 on 4s are good for around 1-1.2kg AUW. If you use the SS980's then 30A esc would be a safer option. For lower kv motors 20A should be enough.

Ashimda sir
this quad is not a heavy lifter frame like your tarot so these motors should be good.

Or he could use Emax 810kv motors.

20amp esc is ok. 10" prop is included but I suggest go for 11" or 12" on 3s. http://rcsportz.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=70_82&product_id=92

Hi Dinesh, bigger frames means more load to lift and therefore powerful motors and Esc...things start getting expensive..one crash and you will be discouraged.

Don't worry about those CW CCW written on those motor listings.

Basically all it's referring to is "The threading of the prop adapter" and not "how the motor is going to spin"
If you are getting CW CCW set then well and fine. If not, don't run behind it. It's not essential as such.

You can easily reverse the rotation of any of these BLDC motors by simply swapping any 2 wires (from the ESC to the motor)

The above is right.

Quality of sensors and esc refresh rates have improved and you can ignore cw ccw rotation.

all you have to do is make sure that the prop is pushing air downwards and the prop speeds up when
that axis dips

There are several steps.... I think the frame motor and Esc selection are main steps. So did you select the frame ?

Ok now you will have to add up the overall weight (all up weight AUW). I know this is before you select the motors and Esc but you can take approx values for those for now. Remember motors prop and Esc are 4 in each quad so add accordingly. Add the flight controller and everything else. What ever weight you get multiply by 3 to factor 3 times the AUW weight...then divide it by 4....this number is the approx thrust to be obtained by each motor and prop combination. Once you get the number let us know.

assume the motors to be 70grams each so 280 grams of motors, esc to be 35grams each so 140grams, controller to be 25grams, frame 420grams, battery 350grams, miscellaneous to be 100grams. Totals to about 1315grams.

You will need the motors to produce more than 2.5xthe frame weight so your motors need to produce more than 3kg thrust to be future proof, the 2216 800kv motors produce 1kg thrust with 11" props, collectively produce more than 4kg!!!!

for example if a motor's power is 300W means it can lift 300g?Huh?

Electrical power of a motor is calculated by multiplying the voltage input to the motor and current drawn by the motor.

For example, lets say, you're powering a motor with a 3S LiPo (~12v) and the motor draws about 15A to swing a certain prop,
the motor's power is 12V * 15A = 180W

I don't think there is any formula to directly derive power output of motor in kg-thrust from watts. So 300W is NOT equal to 300g.

Higher the wattage of motor, more thrust it is capable of producing.

how the watts power of the motor is related with the thrust in kg??
@dinesh.fly
Thumb rule for relating watts to thrust:
1. High kv/ small dia (5-6") prop 3-4gms per watt
2. Med kv/ med dia (7-9") prop 4-5gms per watt
3. Low kv/ larger dia (11-12") prop 7-9gms per watt

For a given dia, finer pitch will give better gms per watt static thrust than coarse pitch
