This is my first entry for RCI 6th Sweepstakes.

First of all I would like to thank Anwarsir and all other seniors here for continuous encouragement to the new model builders.

This is my first build thread, and i'm trying to eliminate any error or mistake though i request suggestions at any point of my build. Here, i'm planning a very simple- scratch build quadcopter.

The key components are as follow:

Aluminium rectangle tubes
Turnigy 2217 16turn 1050kv 23A Outrunner
Turnigy Multistar 30 Amp Multi-rotor Brushless ESC 2-4S
Slow Fly Electric Prop 9047
KK 5.5 original board

I attempted to built a quad and try two year back but not success. Hence, the electronics is still laying somewhere in garage. Yesterday, i got Alu tube. Here are some pics of today's' work.

Two tubes of 36inch each were cut.
A groove in center in each tube was made so that each can fit the other in right angle. Motor mount holes are drilled. Four nylon spacers are mounted to in center so that they can hold the kk 5.5 board. Holes are also drilled in the center junction of the four arms so that they can hold each-other strongly at right angle.

very slow development.

gathered and arranged electronics and removed  dust from it  Cry

cut landing gears from the same aluminium tube. but dropped the idea. the frame weighs nearly 400gms + landing gears(10inches each) measured 61+g each will increas 225g+ Bang Head .

Now, first using foam squares as landing gears which weighs not more than 12-15g each. total would be kept less than 50g Drool for landing gears.

Last few days passed some windy. But, somehow  i managed to take few test lifts to the quadcopter yesterday. After, some hard landings in windy conditions, I got a few  soft landings, but could not stopped the model from drifting.

That seems to be pretty windy out there!! Do not test your quad in such a windy day. Try it when there is very less wind and then try to tune the quad otherwise you may mistune your quad. BTW good effort, keep it up.

Yesterday night, I made little changes in the setup. 9047 propellers are changed with 1045. I also change landing skids  Giggle height and  orientation.

I had (a few) successful maidens today morning. After 0:21 a little roll oscillation started which increased immediately and  turn into a hard landing. After little decrease in roll gyro gain, it flown beautifully even in little windy condition Bang Head. As this cheaper board have no altitude or location hold feature it feels little hard to fly like advanced. Bang Head

I feel my submission for this sweepstakes is complete. I wish experts' voice on this so I can go for my hands on to the next built.

Here is one animation during early stage on my "test-bench". I don't claiming this is any good method for testing but i think it can prevent some major accidents during early testing stages.

Piyush those arms are too long and not required. you can reduce weight by cutting them as per props requirement. I would suggest you to try KK2.0 boards so you can adjust I gain as well. btw which firmware you have on this board?

Thank you for the kind suggestions.

The board is loaded with stick centering software http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1793351#post23592496  from Steveis.

I completely agree with you for the board suggestion. But for now i'm willing to install APM as enough practiced this board.

Earlier, before almost two years, i attempted for the custom frame quad using lesser cut mdf but didn't get success. I believed that longer arms can give little more stability in terms of self stabilization mechanism by the board. Bigger arm also little helped me to identify orientation of the quad. Total weight of all the four arms is little less than 220gms. So even cutting the arms to half, i threat of more loss in stability than weight benefit of about 100gms. But still, I will surely try  to reduce the length of arms in nearby days.
