Title: Shrediquette Bolt Design Y6 FPV Multirotor Build Log
Post by: h4xk3r5 on June 02, 2015, 10:05:15 PM
This is my first build guide on RCindia so i'm not sure if this is the right place to post it.

anyway.. i'm going to build a 250 sized Compact Y6 FPV hexrotor / hexacopter that is similar to Shrediquette Bolt

If you are unaware of Shrediquette Bolt please follow this link http://shrediquette.blogspot.in/p/shrediquette-bolt.html (http://shrediquette.blogspot.in/p/shrediquette-bolt.html)

here are some Photos of the original Design

(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G4RzcyVAgns/T9pPplX4QGI/AAAAAAAAAZE/KBWiRbmtzhU/s320/2.jpg) (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JfVGjX1wMp0/T9pPrMBdfmI/AAAAAAAAAZM/2H2rbTiCz3U/s320/3.jpg)

I'm going to start designing the frame for this design in upcoming weeks so i'm not pretty sure about the FC and Motors
that i would be using so any suggestions are appreciated. I would post more updates in the coming weeks  :hatsoff:

Please do not make the whole post in bold letters.  It affects the homogenous readability of the forum.  It is meant to highlight specific words or parts of sentences.

Above post modified, and post moved to the right board (Multirotors).

This is the list of parts i would be buying from HK for this build.
I though it would be a good idea to post it here first before placing the order... :help:
Motors: Turnigy Multistar 1704-2300Kv 12 Pole Multi-Rotor Outrunner V2 (6pcs)
ESC's:   Turnigy Multistar 10A V2 ESC With BLHeli and 2A LBEC 2-3S V (6pcs)
Props:   5030R (black) Three Blade Propeller CW/CCW (ABS) (3sets)
FC:       AfroFlight Naze32 Acro AbuseMark FunFly Controller
LIPO:    ZIPPY Compact 2200mAh 3S 25C Lipo Pack

Parts i would be using in this build that i own already:
TX/RX:  Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter w/ Module & 8ch Receiver (Mode 2) (v2 Firmware)
CAM:    1/3-inch SONY CCD Video Camera (PAL)
Vid TX:  BOSCAM 5.8G 2W 2000mw 12Ch Wireless Audio Video Transmitter AV Tx
Frame:  < Custom Built using CF>
Misc:    Turnigy Multistar USB BLHeli Programmer For V2 Multistar ESC
            L-C Power Filter-1.7A
5.8 GHz Circular Polarized Antenna RP-SMA (Transmitter and Receiver)
            5.8 Ghz 32 CH Rx

I'm not sure about this config, if it will go together or not so i'm asking for expert help
Please help me out... i'm gonna buy them by the end of this month :hatsoff:

Sir refrain from buying the multistar escs as they have been reported of bad quality by many users
Instead buy these http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__11429__HobbyKing_12A_BlueSeries_Brushless_Speed_Controller.html and flash them with blheli  :hatsoff:

The parts list looks good but I have a couple of suggestion. The Blue Series ESCs are better if you flash them with BLHeli, which can be inconvenient. You could consider one of these ESCs instead:
DYS SN16A (http://www.banggood.com/DYS-SN16A-Mini-16A-SimonK-ESC-OPTO-2-4S-20-500Hz-for-Multicopters-p-974639.html) which is SimonK OR
DYS BL16A  (http://www.banggood.com/DYS-BL16A-Mini-16A-BLHeli-ESC-OPTO-2-4s-for-RC-Multicopter-p-975796.html) which is BLheli.

The SN16A can be flashed with both BLHeli and SimonK over the signal cable using an Arduino Nano, which is a lot more convenient. The BL16A supports only BLHeli. This is what I think, I am not totally sure about the details of each bootloader. However, these are OPTO ESCs so you will need a BEC to power your flight controller. You could always use a power distribution board with integrated BECs

For the motors, I would suggest Cobra 2204 1960kv motors. These are hard to get since they go out of stock very fast, but they are supposed to be totally worth it. They run a wide range of props on 3S as well as 4S and are really powerful. They also are high quality, with excellent bearings.

Oh, and do make sure that your VTx and VRx have common frequencies so that they are compatible.

:hatsoff: Thanks for the info @SK1701
i got two questions for you. ;D
1. the escs you suggested are rated at 16Amps but 2300 motors would be drawing not more than 10Amps will that effect me in anyway??
2. i have emax 2300 kv motors in hand do you think they will be compatible with these escs???

yup that will be compatible with it

You will need at least escs of 15 amps cause you should keep 5 amps extra always just in case of the escs getting heated up too much and ya they will be compatible

1. You could even use a 100Amp ESC, though it would be terribly heavy! The rating of the ESC tells us how much current it can handle, not how much current it forces into the motors. It is always better to have a safety margin like in this case, we have a 6 Amp margin. This will prevent your ESCs from overheating.

2. If it was a SimonK ESC, I would say that it certainly is compatible. However, the intricacies of programming in BLHeli means you may need to change some settings on the ESC (from BLHeliSuite) to get the best performance.

I also have noticed that you are using an extremely powerful Vtx. What sort of range are you looking for? Because this VTx will most probably have a greater range than your Turnigy 9x! It is generally recommended that your radio has greater range than the Vtx, or you will be able to watch your hex go out of control in glorious FPV  :giggle:! Maybe, you should consider using an LRS module for greater range? Or a FrSky XJT module with the new L9R receivers (~3 km range I think).

Thanks for the info @SK1701

Well i would go with your advice with the ESC's
and for the VTx i actually have no other option  :banghead: because i have this one lying around for a long time and its pretty heavy too so thought of recycling old stuff before it dies out, and i would not be flying it anyway far than 200 mt's so i guess its not much of an issue,
 :hatsoff:

thanks for the reply, i really appreciate that  ;D

You're most welcome!
If you're flying only around 200 metres than that VTx is major overkill! It will be unnecessarily bulky, heavy and will get pretty hot so I would suggest you just get a 200/400/600 mW system.

Title: UPDATE
Post by: h4xk3r5 on June 08, 2015, 10:46:48 PM
Thanks everyone for your advices  :hatsoff:

I was tinkering with SolidEdge last night and i came up with the frame.
its not final yet,i was just trying to estimate the size i would require.
i kept the motors as close as possible so that it looks like the actual Shrediquette Bolt with a clearance between each blade of about 5mm
and the CF plate thickness would be 2~3mm.
motors are standard 2300 with 12/16mm mounting holes.
i cannot upload CAD files over here :banghead: so i have rendered some images ;D  have a look  :hatsoff:

 :thanks:

hello sir
you may upload the cad files to dropbox or any cloud application and share a link to help others improve the design or follow it
