Title: Simple and lightweight propeller guard for quad
Post by: Kodava on December 13, 2013, 07:28:27 PM
I'm just getting into quads and practising on my terrace has resulted in some minor crashes and broken props. Most broken props resulted from running into the walls sideways when the wind is strong.

I've put together a simple prop guard which works well for walls. Used bamboo skewers, zipties and ice cream sticks with hot glue wherever needed. Also added foam padding to the legs for hard landings. A lost model buzzer has also been added in case of landings in tall grass.

Weight of quad with 4s 2700mah battery prior to mods was 1076gm. Weight after mods is 1119gms. Mods added 43 grams. I may add thick monofilament fishing line connecting the ice-cream sticks to help with trees and branches etc.

Thanks guys, the ice cream sticks transfer the stress from one contact point to the other pair of skewers. The skewers also flex a little on impact and won't break unless you hit an object at high speed.

Wow.
Now that's creativity.
I'll try that on mine.
