Title: Suggested FPV gear for Quad?
Post by: shreeyak on January 05, 2015, 07:12:41 AM
Hi,
Im using a RCTimer spider frame quad with sunnysky 2212 with 10x5" props, 4S LiPo. I am looking to add FPV to my quad, and would like suggestions on what gear to buy?

Budget is around 10-20k all inclusive of rx,tx,camera, antenna, monitor. I am looking to be able to get a good camera, for decent imaging. Purpose is general FPV flying. I wish to use 5.8GHz system.
The options i have considered are:
RX/Tx
1.ImmersionRC 500mw
2.Boscam 200mw
3.Boscan 600mw

Camera
4.TBS ChipChipv2 camera
5.any sony hadcam 700TVL camera

Monitor
6.DIY Quanum Goggles
7.Generic 7"LCD from SP Road
8.Other LCD monitor with built in receiver

Antenna
9.Circularly polarized from LHS
10. Immersion RC circ polarized

Any tips will be greatly helpful. I want a general purpose FPV, with good quality image, less than 1km range.
Looking for a good compromise between quality and cost.
Any other suggstions are most welcome. I will be grateful for links.

Thanking you all

As you have mentioned you need only less than a Km range, a 200mW system is enough for you - coupled with perfectly matched antennas, they will provide more than that :) It help decrease your cost too .

For the camera, do you prefer recording feature ? if yes it is better get a dvr on boad with RCA o/p , The SJcam, Mobius action cam , Turnigy HD action cam etc... are good options, or at a tight budget, you could get a genuine 808#16 (720p) for around 2.5 K

For the ground station, you can use any display with AV in. If you prefer goggles, then you wont be satisfied with a Quanum DIY for sure ... you may want  to upgrade.

I am also planning a fpv setup for my hex and plane. Recently ordered a 32 channel boscam rx and 600mw tx with 700tvl effio sony camera from quadkopters - the package should arrive any day now. Still not decided on the lcd and antennas. Quadkopter has a circular polarised antenna set on sale which has a 5db gain. Plan to use apm as the autopilot with telemetry alongwith ardupilot running on my tab

Requestp fpv vetrans to comment
1 Whether the antenna set sold by quadkopters is good enough or I should look for another antenna
2. What would be an appropriate 7"" monitor for fpv. I can go down to SPRoad and pick up one.
3. Are dvrs avalable at SPRoad or need to buy one from a lhs.

Later planning to add a dvr and second receiver on a diversity  setup.

Hi,
Im using a RCTimer spider frame quad with sunnysky 2212 with 10x5" props, 4S LiPo.
I just wanted to mention that 10" props seem too much for the 2212 motors on 4S. I think 8-9" props would be a better choice. Are these the x2212 980 kv motors?

Lol, yes. I was using 8045 but I ran out of props and am now running 1045 since they're all I have right now till I get new props. Esc does get quite warm, but motors themselves stay cool.

Any recommendations on the fpv gear?

@Shreeyak ,How much Amps is your ESC
@Ashok sir, you can get any LCD with RCA i/p (AV IN) - Car LCD or anything,or buying a portable DVD player with 7" or 9" LCD will be good because it comes with it's own power supply, and it has other uses too costs around 2 - 3K

And another suggestion, It is better to get a DVR cam on board rather using DVR at ground station, you can get cheap 720p or 1080p DVR cameras like 808#16, mobius Action, Turnigy HD action cam , SJ cameras etc..etc...
For the price you spend for a DVR, you can get Genuine 808#16 (720p) from ebay (2.5K)

I'm using turnigy multistar esc 30a. Yet to flash simonk on it, heard about some newer multistars heating up extremely due to simonk, so not yet flashed.
My flight is quite stable, now I need to add FPV is all.

So many options in 5'8ghz itself so very confused....

30A is lot safer for 2212 motors. no worry on that part :)
But 1045 prop at 4S is not recommended - still many people are using with out problems.

Which is your radio Tx ? and what range FPV do you expect ?

For 1kms get the 200mw with a good antenna from any lhs!! As for the display its up to you!! Flying fpv is not good using display, you wont have the feel!! The diy goggles is feally good!!And if your planning to go for some kickass fpv get a better tx for fpv and setting up a diversity receiver will come in handy!!

regards,
JK

Hah, you need only up to 1Km range? , 200mW system with mushroom antennas, will serve your purpose.

Oh cool. And if I get the 600mw will it give better penetration through trees?
I know 5.8Ghz doesn't penetrate through obstacles, but I don't want some branches to kill my signal 50m out... lots of trees around here.

What about the antenna? Which is a good one I can get? I thought to get Spironet antennas and ChipChip cam from TBS store. Or does 700tvl Sony with lhs circ polarized sufficient?
