Title: T-Copter
Post by: SunLikeStar on August 11, 2012, 08:01:20 PM
So the T-copter frame I was building turned too small and decide to build a new one. This is the first multirotor I’m building from scratch so trying to keep things simple right now.

The frame is two strips of wood (called lippin patti localy) tied together with a long piece of rubber band. I used this calculator (http://lloydhassell.brinkster.net/rcgroups/t-copter%20dimensions%20calculator.html) by Stunt Double (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=18798387&postcount=15) to calculate CG and tail boom length.

For yaw I’m using RcExplorers mechanism, and of course everything is fixed using zip ties.

Motor: 2830 1000kv
ESC: FLY PRO 25A
Controller: HK v2.1
Firmware: KapteinKUKs v1.5

Flew it today, just had to reverse yaw gyro, not very stable with all pots at 50% but still flyable. Will keep playing with pot settings and post the result here. No video yet, will try to get some tomorrow.

Thank you guys :) it flies but not very well, which mostly is because of improper pot settings. Check out the video. Its very difficult to control.

Dharmik, any tips to achieve good pot settings :headscratch:

Wow it flies great. I think wind makes it unstable but it looks very well tuned. As i know for these(t-copter, tri, quad) firmwares pot settings are
roll pot - P gain of roll/pitch
pitch - I gain of roll/pitch
yaw - P gain of yaw while I fixed to 0.2
I have mine set to
P Gain 40-42%(above that it oscillates with non flashed escs)
I Gain 10% (they call it heading hold)
Yaw 80%

In my case 40-45% was soft spot for P gain. I kept my I gain between 1-15% and it gave me good hover capabilities. Above 20% you will get heading hold capability for acro flight. Interesting thing i found about yaw is if you reduce gain below 55-60% it shows ascend/descend with respect to rudder inputs, so i kept mine above 60-70%. I am using rubber grommets(got from old dvd player) and nylon rubber to mount board(no nut-bolts) it works fine.

Thank you for the tips Dharmik. From your inputs, it looks like i might have roll set a little high And yaw to low (40-45%). I'll play with the settings and post results here. Right now i just have the board tapped on the frame, its was just temporary. The rubber grommets idea sounds good, I'm sure i'll be able to fins something like that in my junk box :)

After breaking two servos, I've now replaced the tiny 12g metal gear servo with a futaba s3003. Flew it today and was getting much better yaw controll. Have finally managed to trim the pots for a nice and stable level flight. Had tones of fun flying the t-copter today, had a few crashes also, the final broke the left wooden arm but I came back home very satisfied :)
Will build a new one with foldable arms now

Some shots of the completed t-copter.
I used a rings of pvc pipe for temporary landing gear as i didn't had foam. But they turned out to be the best landing gear I've build, little bouncy tho. This is how i'm gona build landing gear for all my future multicopters.

No, its all good now. The only thing that requires tuning now is my flying skills :) Later that day I was able to hover at a spot for one full charge of 2200mah battery

I am facing some problem with my T copter. When I connect the receiver to the HK KK board it doesn't respond and light blinks. please help

doesn't respond and light blinks. please help
= Rx is not bound to the Tx.
Follow these steps:
power off receiver
power off transmiter
insert bind plug onto BAT pins
power on receiver
light will blink
put transmitter throttle to zero position
hold bind and switch on transmitter
hold until binding is made
usually just a couple of seconds

Make sure you connected an ESC and a motor to your ESC to hear the arming beeps.

@Dharmik, yes most members are here on RcIndia. Actually people first find RcIndia and then Pancard club field

@Anwar, Yes you can say that, but this is barely half the turnout we get usually :)

Hello Friends!!!
Today itself I flew my T-copter for the first time.It was amazing. It was flying nicely. I didn't had much experience of flying it. Requires some trimming. The landing was very bad. Both time times I landed it in shrubs. But still it flew nicely. Please look at the video

@ ved,  Great start... especially with a Tri-copter which is slightly difficult for a beginner.  But don't you have a ground nearby?  I see u flying very close to the electric lines?  or even a remote beach?

Ved

Please be careful as to where you fly. You are flying dangerously close to people and that too when you have not mastered the T-Copter.

Please keep a safe distance between the people and the T_copter. Multirotors can cause serious damage if not handled properly.

Fly safe

Hi Vtol, as discussed over PM you need to calibrate throttle range of your ESC. You can calibrate one ESC at a time by disconnecting the signal connector from the control board and connecting it to a receiver. I did a google search for your ESC name and got link to this user manual which has instructions to calibrate your ESC's throttle.

I have calibrated as mentioned....wen its  run individually it goes from 0 throttle to max....but wen connected to d board, all 3 motors start at diff time...
and also tel me how to do stick centring....

ya it luks nice but not wen it flies....
I hav a Q
as said in the setup guide, in step 2 for calibrating the throttle range on the ESC’s
http://rcexplorer.se/educational/2011/02/kk-tricopter-setup-guide/
should it be done like this or should be done individually?
Please help

Title: Re: T-Copter
Post by: Rahulvyas on April 01, 2013, 09:46:07 PM
No This type of calibration is done for all connected ESCs together.
For the individual one you need a programming card. :)

Title: Re: T-Copter
Post by: VTOLkarthik on April 01, 2013, 09:52:55 PM
I have all ESC's connected together....from left ,right and rear motors...so should i have to do it altogether or individually?
FYI I have done both but dint make all d motors to run together...

Title: Re: T-Copter
Post by: Rahulvyas on April 01, 2013, 10:04:55 PM
Try calibrating the ESCs.
Change the minimum throttle in your kk board to higher value.

Title: Re: T-Copter

Vtol, whats the update? Have you calibrated each esc separately. have you set all gyros at 50%. Please post a video of whats happening.

Title: Re: T-Copter

I have calibrated ESC's seperately but wen i run the motors with prop off each motors start at difff time...ill test it tomorrow and then ill post the video... can u tell me how to do the stick centering?

OK I got it figured...yaw pot was reversed...so wen i turned it to min i was making it to max...so i was unable to calibrate ESC's with kkboard...
now all the motors r starting up at a time...
Ill be testing it today n post the video...
Can anyone tell me how to reverse the yaw pot...?
I get confused wit one pot reversed and others in normal
THANK YOU

I'm glad you are making progress Vtol. Please do all your testing in an open field, crashes will more forgiving and you will have more confidence inspiring flights as you don't have to worry about hitting something.
