Title: Working on new FPV frame for my multirotor
Post by: satyagupta on June 03, 2013, 04:08:45 PM
Its been a long long time since i flew my quad. I was really enjoying it and learning to do FPV. But then i had a crash and since then its been a long long time. So i thought to utilize this time and make a new frame for FPV use and make it light weight too :giggle:

Also this time i was thinking to make the frame foldable so that i can store it easily ;)

So here is the new SpiderX frame pictures, let me know your views about it.

It is made using Glass Fiber Plates 1.5mm thick and 13mm x 13mm aluminium booms.

Hey guys, finally i got time to work on my frame and here is the result

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nr6U-icSImk

13mm aluminum booms
1.5mm Glass Fiber
Red Leopard 2835 KV850 BL Motor (http://www.rcecho.com/LEOPARD-Model-2835-KV850-RC-Outrunner-Brushless-Motor-and-Propeller-Adaptor.html)
F30A with simonk ESC (yet to arrive)
KK2.0 with 1.6 FW
5.8 Ghz 200mW FPV with Clover Leaf Antenna specially tuned for channel 3 (i got it specially made for me)
And yes FPV

as its made using 1.5mm GF sheets its bit flexible at the center but i am planning to add few more sheets at the center, i think it may break in case of hard crash.

Let me know guys how is it?

what is that green thing in between the arms and the frame ?

Its a cricket bat grip i added that to remove some vibration that is generated by motors. I got this idea from Dharmik bhai, he has used this in his frame. I did used this in my previous frame.

I am not going to tight the screws completely, just little bit and going to using thread locker on the screws.

did it work ?
even i want to try it out

yes offcourse, i am using single layer. You can use double layer and try. It adds more flexibility to the frame.

With my previous frame w/o grip it used to be like a one single piece or you can say very stiff. But with grip added i could feel the flexibility.

Should give a try.

How do you colour the alluminium?
I bought them pre colored.

@aditya You are welcome, but we should thank Dharmik bhai for this idea. If you are planning to try this then try with dual layer grip, and let us know how it went.

Same here bro, rains are keep me inside. There is still some time for maiden for this new frame. I will spend more time on balancing frame and props (unlike my last frame :D )

how is FW 1.6?? i did checked your video what are the improvements?

:giggle: well i loved DT750 a lot just more than anyone could.

But due to its motor mount and the screw that holds the motor on the mount (mine used to get loosened up after couple of flights) i had to find a replacement. But still i just love DT750 they are awesome 1100grams thrust @17-18 amps thats AWESOME once i got 13 mins flight time with fully charged 4000 mah lipo

And i wanted to decrease the frame weight, mainly i wanted to use 13 mm aluminum booms. Earlier it was 1600-1700 with FPV and now its just 1500~ with FPV

I will down the line or early next year build one more frame, with our quadkopters CNC frame :D with that i will use DT750 motors. :D

DT700s with 12inch props are good if you want a stable frame with LOTS of lift ;D

Title: Re: Working on new FPV frame for my multirotor
Post by: satyagupta on August 18, 2013, 08:20:39 PM
did maiden today :D was fantastic really SimonK ESC do wonders to quad. I could easily see the smoothness in movements. I did not tune the PI values flew with stock settings, was not in a mood to let rain gods spoil my mood :D

I flew for around 10-13 mins not very sure about that but it was good test flight.

Now i have a question, i have flashed my ESC with simonk but i hear the normal beeps with esc i connected to KK board. I am not very sure but i did found a video long time back which said that the start up beeps changed when ESC has SimonK FW

Can you anybody confirm this please... :help:

Mine gives different tone and there are no functions left to adjust. Only throttle calibration that we can adjust. Which firmware you have flashed?

yea same with me only throttle calibration. bs_nfet.hex firmware i have F30A

Can you share the tone, of your ESC.

:hatsoff: :hatsoff: Thanks Shauvik, the secret lies in SimonK ESC and 1.6FW i guess

I have been working on this frame from March-April. i did lots of reading and digging before i actually built it. Hence the lot of time spend before work is paid off.

I have plans to practice more flying with LCD and then with goggles and once i am good, i will go to near by scenes to do some fotugraphy/viodegraphy :D  :giggle:

Its been very very long time since i worked or spend any time on my quads.

I became father in November 2013, so lot of time was spent with baby. And then QK handling webstore is not easy :phew: and also a full time job.
So i never really got to spent some time with my hobby, i did built/flew one but never really spent a lot of time into it. And lately i had started missing that fun. So now i have decided that atleast 2 weekends of a month i would give time to hobby :)

And i have started from today, i am modifying this frame of mine. The design and layout would but same but instead of aluminum booms i am planning to use 15x15 square CF rods (square) and 1.5mm CF sheets for the body.

I got the sheets and the rod couple of days back i would get the CNC ready and do some cutting tomorrow and post some pictures soon
