Title: X2 ELF 88mm micro brushless FPV quad build log
Post by: sim_tcr on September 19, 2018, 03:33:22 PM
With my last 210mm gps build (http://"http://www.rcindia.org/multirotors/210-(lisam-ls-210)-mini-quadcopter-with-cc3d-atom-build-log/
") almost completed, I have decided to go with a micro brushless 88mm.
I wanted something really small which I could fly indoor to learn flying.
I chose brushless against brushed motros assuming they last long and fun to fly.
Frame is 88mm carbon fiber. It weighs 10gm.
This is also my first FPV setup. I don't have goggles yet. I am planning to use PC/android OTG receiver for time being.
The F4 FC I chose can run betaflight and INAV. I will start with betaflight, but I might switch to INAV as betaflight stopped supporting Altitude hold.
There aren't many choice in Lipo to pick from in this class. I settled on gensace 800mah 40C 2S weighing 48gm.
Expected AUW is 110gm including prop guards.
This is a complete banggood build except lipo and Tx.

Complete Component list,

X2 ELF 88mm Frame
DYS BE1104 7000KV motors
Hakrc 15A Blheli_S BB2 Dshot 4 In 1 ESC
Original Airbot Omnibus F4 Nano V6 FC
Gemfan 2035 4 Blade props
HGLRC 1.38g WS2812 LED wwith buzzer
FS-RX2A Pro V1 Rx
Eachine VTX03 VTX
Caddx Turbo EOS2 1200TVL camera
Eachine Propeller Guard

Except camera and prop guards, all parts received. Everything reached under two weeks. I will start updating the thread after I start building.
Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Haha.. We all seem to be have the same progression on quad sizes.. 450 -> 210 -> whoop
I for one, have been doing rounds and building quads all over the place ... -> 250 -> 380 -> 260 -> next?  :giggle:

Components look good.

I had random problems with that receiver which developed in first few flights. Test with props first at full throttle and see if RX browns out, i.e. FC looses RX signal.
Helps in setting up failsafe to cut off motors immediately.

Build is delayed. There seems to be some issue with motors. They vibrate a lot. Banggood is sending replacements.

I was testing the eachine vtx03 by just powering it on (without camera or VRx connected). First I gave it 5V and after couple of seconds it becomes so hot
to touch (around 160F). I immediately powered it off. Then I gave it 3.3V and kept powered on for some 10 mins. This time it was not that hot (around 115F). Is this normal behavior? Should I be worried?

Motor has a busted ball bearing.

VTXs do get hot depending on the power level, supplied voltage doesn't matter (there's a buck circuit to convert to 3.3V). You maybe seeing a difference in heat because you're limiting the current and thus the output power. Don't leave it on bench (without air flow on it) for too long.

I'm interested in seeing how the Caddx Turbo EOS2 1200TVL camera picture quality is like.

that's why i don't order from banggood...
If i were to i would order those stuff which is being sold by a known brand and is known for quality not for being cheap...

Where would you order 1104 motors from? And FC, ESC with 20x20 holes? Micro frame too?
I would be glad to see a LHS selling them.
And so far I have no complains on bg.
Whenever I had issues, they either refunded or resent (based on my prefernece)
This is just my personal opinion.

which international website you used for purchasing items?
Banggood is good. Banggood is providing replacement or refund.
In case of AliExpress, all things depends on seller & dispute result.
Banggood send item via Gati. You can get your product within 7-10 days.
Gati is better than Indian Post. Postmen of Gati can deliver in rainy season.
You can find cheap items at AliExpress but not on Banggood.
You can easily get refund or replacement at banggood but it is hard to get refund or replacement at AliExpress.
Many times, I have lost my money in AliExpress Fraud. You can't open dispute after dispute time.
So, Banggood is good if you are purchasing quality products and if you want refund or replacement.

They refund...
emax the company itself sells on banggood...
Seen the emax mangnum??
& If you are looking for real quality lasting much more, order from known sites like hobbyking, rotor riot, etc.
Heard of quadkopters international service??

But it's my opinion I don't want to support companies that sells clones or have a poor built and sells them at lower price many times causing loss to people as sometimes bad quality is noticed after days...
Have you heard Mr.steele's opinion??

Support indian hobby stores if you can and if you like them, some might be bad according to you so don't order from them. They are few in number. don't buy overpriced products though. But if you want to support the hobby in India buy stuff from reasonable priced from LHS

Cheers... please

(I got a little confused while writting on how to write, hope you all understand the feelings and what I want to say)

Saying without experience?
Mr. Steele ko kehna hoga tho woh banda kud post karegna.
Uska opinion se yaha post kyoo kr rahe ho...

I received the replacement motors and did all the wiring. Flashed inav 2.0.0 did all the configuration and tried flying.
Quad is shaking a lot, its not stable.
I don't think its motor / esc issue. Because same setup if I flash betaflight it flies smooth.

INAV issue is fixed.
I used the preset option and chose the smallest available (5inch Racer) and it worked!! Altitude hold also worked.
Video below, (after some time the beginning the rest whole video is with alt hold enabled)

Mounted vtx03 and caddx turbo eos2.
Footage is recorded using ROTG01 and go fpv app on phone.
Quality of the real time feed is far better than DVR.

This video I did to test the latency of FPV equipment was lying on the hard disk for some time.
May be useful for some one to make a decision before they decide to buy.

Changed props to Emax Avan 2inch 4blade. Original (Gemfan 2035 4 blade broke)
First time tried FPV flying using goggles on this micro quad.

Updated to Betaflight 4.0.
Worked fine with default pids.
Had an issue with MOTOR_STOP function. Then realized in bf 4.0 airmode is enabled by default which override MOTOR_STOP function.

Also tested https://github.com/betaflight/betaflight/wiki/Community-Presets (https://github.com/betaflight/betaflight/wiki/Community-Presets) tune and still fly nice.

Betaflight 4.0 testing.

https://youtu.be/0RKAa7ezArk (https://youtu.be/0RKAa7ezArk)

Observed cooler motors and increased flight time.

Changed below from stock value.

set dyn_lpf_gyro_max_hz = 700
set vbat_pid_gain = ON
set p_pitch = 33
set i_pitch = 85
set d_pitch = 35
set p_roll = 28
set i_roll = 78
set d_roll = 32
set d_min_pitch = 18
set d_min_roll = 16
set d_min_boost_gain = 30
set d_min_advance = 0
set iterm_relax_type = GYRO
set iterm_relax_cutoff = 11
set dyn_notch_width_percent = 0
set tpa_rate = 80
set tpa_breakpoint = 1800

Throttle was too sensitive.
I flat out the hover point in throttle curve on fs-i6 tx and issue resolved.
https://oscarliang.com/throttle-curve/

Completed 100 flights with quad.
Damages so far is one motor and a set of props.
Still flying with original gensace 2s 40C 800mah pack.

This is why I love quads ... they don't need a dozen square kms of space to fly.... and you can get into yours neighbours compound without knocking.  ;D

Got new FlySky Flit10 IBUS telemetry Rx. Can get RSSI on OSD now.
Thanks to fellow rcindia user for selling it a reasonable price.

Here is range test of the new Flit10 RSSI Rx.
Unfortunately while installing the Rx, I had broken the antennas.
I did solder them but it affected the range very badly.
