Title: Yet another quadrotor - Please review the plans!
Post by: qwerty156 on May 14, 2013, 11:06:11 AM
Hi,

My name is Sarang and i am new to this community! I am a student currently in 11th and have been wanting to build a quadrotor for a  long time- finally i got the time and money(although on a short budget!) for it!

I have been lurking on these forums for some time and getting some information. I want to build a medium range quadrotor - 1000-1500 g AUW with 3-4 Kg thrust. I plan to import all of the parts from abroad except for the radio. I am currently facing a dilemma regarding the motor: I have researched for some time and found that most people is dt700/dt750 for their quad but i have seen some complaints about their build quality namely failing after even small crashes. So i have narrowed down to two motors-
NTM prop drive: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=25081
and D2826-6: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=12919

Which one thise is better? If none, can you please suggest another motor?

The parts shall be fairly standard - 3S battery, F30 ESC etc. I am not sure about the frame though..

Also if anyone has any recommendations on a radio (new/used) please post!
My budget for the whole build will be less than  :Rs: 10,000 so its on a shoe string budget.

of course the mtn pop drive is better than the D2826-6
but i reccommend you hexTronik DT700 Brushless Outrunner 700kv

or
hexTronik DT750 Brushless Outrunner 750kv  but its currently out of stock

I was a bit hesitant about using those because i saw some people complaining that they were fragile and break after small crashes. I also saw someone saying that because of the shape foreign object enter the motor and can cause damage. Is there any reason why you would recommend them over the NTM ?
Thanks

Your research is right that there are issues with build of this motor but if you apply hot glue at wire connector and reduce the shaft length to overcome it, then they are considerably good motors.

I will recommend  DT750 as i have used and tested it.

My tri have seen to0 many crashes, all MG servo failed, frame bent but no prob with motors as of now.

Go with DT750 but now a days many LHS have whole kit available withing 10K easily. Even my webstore (http://www.quadkopters.com) i will be getting  ARF kit pretty soon. You just need a Transmitter and Receiver

NTMs have bad bearings. I have read reviews.

is your budget including a transmitter or excluding? Rahulvyas(the guy above^) is selling some quad parts i believe... :giggle:

@aniket - Budget is excluding the transmitter and receiver - i am new to this hobby so dont have it  :P
@satya - Prices are quite reasonable in LHS but since i am on a tight budget - 10k including radio, ill have to use HK for parts  :-\
@rahul- I saw that you're from delhi as well! I might be interested in some of those parts you have for sale!

Okay, so what about the D2826 vs DT700/750? I am kinda worried that small particles like pebbles, dust, twigs etc will enter the motor and damage

Is there any major difference between the 700 and 750 except for kV like thrust efficiency etc or are they interchangeable?
Also, how would one go about shortening the length of the shafts of the motors? What equipment would i need?
Thanks!

dont worry about FOD....  if your taking of from dust or something then you can make some sort of dust guard, but otherwise its not that a thing to worry about... cant advise about the motors cause i am not a quad guy... :P, but a good Tx/Rx is the Flysky FSTH9x/Turnigy 9x Radio....

Okay so i am not worrying about that any more :P

I wanted to ask you regarding the feasibility of importing a radio - some member on this forum have done it themselves without any duty. Is the money spent from LHS better than the possible headache?

hmmm thats a good question... some people have got it without hassles... others have had to jump through numerous hoops to get it... its all a matter of luck... the flysky 9x is not bad... its actually pretty good... so far it suits all my needs... :P

Still i believe you can get a KIT and a used Transmitter or a brand new cheap flysky 6ch or and around 10K (little up but not very)

I have found a member of this forum selling TURNIGY D2830-11 1000kv motor at a great price. Are these ok for a quadrotor?
@satya Ill probabky get a flysky 6ch!
@aniket I am probably going to usa a KK 2.0. I found someone selling ALL the parts in my city :D

Don't get a flysky 6ch if you can stretch your budget a little. Get a th9x(Turnigy 9x or the flysky one). You will not regret it. Make the frame on your own and you can use the money saved there to get a decent radio.

Go for the turnigy motors. They are great! That would save you the hassle of modifying the dt750s..

Ok thanks- I will buy the Turnigy D2830 then!
As far as the frame goes, chasni ji is selling the frame with the motor so i dont have the choice. The flysky 9ch might be out of my budget - do you know if anyone is selling them 2nd hand?

Yeah ill just post an ad there.

Another question - Are Turnigy Plush 30A usable for a quadrotor without being flashed to simonK? Because somewhere i saw that the new Plush 30A escs cant be flashed to simonK.

Thanks!

Okay so it would be flyable without flashing, but would flashing give any additional advantage?

Silly question but a 3S battery will work right?
There is no data given for the 3S battery for D2830 motor on HK website.

EDIT: Anwsered my own question, it will work fine with 3S 2200 mAh Battery

Sorry for the long delay everyone, i was quite busy with my coaching classes(I am expected to study 45 hours a week  :'( ), so didn't get time to make and fly the quad..

So without further ado, here is the quad  ;D
(http://i.imgur.com/Kv3MVk4.jpg)
The quad works quite well, it has PLENTY of thrust and very agile but i am unable to comtrol it  :banghead:
I broke 3 props  in one day  :banghead:
Only reason it flew so far is because of the auto level on KK2!

I was overall really exciting, i just wish i get more time to fly!

turn down the stick scaling, and that will make it docile.

hanji , flies pretty fast.
make stick scaling less. and start tuning PID once you feel that you are ready for it! :D
What props are those?
