Post by: Mjet on January 30, 2013, 02:34:26 PM
Hello All,
In my 2.4 GHZ receiver, antenna wire got a cut on outer wire and have range  issue ( not working beyond 100 meters)
Antenna wire – COAX, Dipole type
Length of Antenna – 14 Cms ( from tip to PCB)
Pl suggest, that how can I repair it.
Thanks and Regards
Mohan

Mohan

It's best you order a new one. BTW, the length is calibrated in the factory for maximum range

Which make is it?

If branded, try for antenna alone. Otherwise, you judge: there might not be too much price difference

Where is the cut at the end or at the root of the antenna wire?

If it is at the tip end of the antenna, it is still repairable or else it is not.

If the cut is at the tip end of the antenna. Clip of the antenna wire a mm behind the cut area.

Now carefully, preferable under a magnifying glass expose the inner conductor of the wire along with its insulation by using a very sharp  blade, taking care there is no nick or cut to the inner wire or its insulation. You have to expose a length of inner wire for 30mm Assuming your inner conductor is approx 24 AWG.

what the col says...
If on the other hand your antenna is cut in the middle then

try this http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__16667__FrSky_Receiver_antenna_40_cm.html

 - assuming your pcb end connector matches - it will work 100 %

antenna has Cut at , where wire comes out from plastic casing of RX ( apx 2 cms from solder at PCB) , rest of the wire including dipole + exposed ( 30 mm) with shrink tube is ok.

can i cut the 2 cm piece and resolder to PCB with rest of 12 cms length? total length of wire is 14 cm from PCB to tip

Pl see the attached , i will post the actual photograph also.

The antenna in the link proffered by Mr. Sundaram is $ 2.45. Why would you want to risk your model/engine/electronics?

if it is closer to the Rx PCB then it is prudent to go with what Saikat has suggested. buy an antenna wire with ufl connector.

Though it is not impossible to solder the wire to the PCB it is a very delicate work to be done with experienced hand. it is better to go with replacement antenna wire.
