Title: Adding New Models to Reflex XTR
Post by: ujjwaana on December 09, 2009, 06:07:40 PM
Any Reflex XTR users here ? I really like the new true physics of Reflex (compared to Realflight/FMS) started loving it (I am using the USB dongle for XTR, no cracks). The problem was limit range of Planes and Airports (difficult ones for landing by beginners). I downloaded many juicy planes and airports from Sim.de site but none of them work

1. The planes files which were installers
2. Planes files which were folders containing .Par and .Jpg/.BMP files. I copied those folders to \Flugzeug\ folder

Whatever plane package I used, when I launch XTR and try to load the plane either I get:
"The .MOd file could no be located"
"Error Reading the file"
I used to throw a dialog to enter plane parameters like Engine etc.

Is there a guide how to install/configure new models for XTR ? It was a cakewalk for Realflight and FMS, why so difficult in XTR ?

Thank,
Ujjwal

Started with RealFlight, and adding models (even editing them) was pretty easy.  Moved on to Phoenix, and found it significantly better for heli flying.  Never tried adding models outside of their website to Phoenix though, as I felt there are enough of all types to suit any kind of flying.

Looks like this is mostly an issue with hunting down the right procedure and following it.

BTW, difficulty in landing is part of the learning curve.  I am not sure looking for a better plane is the answer  8-)  :P  Just try to land one of the models you are already comfortable with, as the more you practice, the easier it should get.  If you "cheat" with a better behaved plane, you may end up paying the price for that on the field  :headscratch:

What are you using Atul ? The XTR USB dongle or generic FMS USB Cable/PPJOY With SPP (with usual XTR crk) ? IF you are using later, the Sim will run only for a while before loosing the link with the Tx.

The Channel assignment is rather freak.
1. I assume you have already found the menu to do that.
2. Click the 'button' labeled with control you want assign.
3. Quickly move the corresponding stick to the extreme (up/down/left/right) as flashed on the screen.
4. Keep the stick in that for 2-3 seconds and then click the next control surface you want to assign.
5. Repeat step 2-4 for all controls.

I am on vacation and would be able to post the Screen shot only after reaching Bangalore by Sunday.
And Yes Atul, kindly check your PM for my other reply.

Yup.joining the tx with the usb dongle to my laptop..ACtually I can get it to work but some of the channels are not responding will do some experiments today..

thanks for replying.. Anyone knws any links for free simulators or torrents  ;D

cheers

"The .MOd file could no be located"
"Error Reading the file"

I encountered this recently, and the issue was admin rights on Vista (may be similar on Win7 also).  Right click and "Run as administrator" solved it.

Dear Ujjwaana,

Have u tried www.rc-sim.de? The files are in zip folders and after downloading make seperate folders in \Flugzeug\--- and then extract the files into it. Name the folder the name of the zip file.
It's really simple and all my models work fine. only 1 file does not have a sound but the rest are OK.
Regards
Doc

Thanks Doc for reviving this dead thread of mine.
I am already fan of Rc-Sim.de and using thier download file exactly same way you use. Unfortunately almost half of the Models give me error.

Thankfully the Estratos model which I downloaded some time back to practice this latest plane build of mine, it worked.

I guess Realflight has much better package management system (call it RPM ? ) I hardly faced any issue importing a new model. Hope Reflex improves in upcoming release.

I would post the link of my future model import if they don't work on mine, so that you may verify the same.

On the side note, I found that the dongle I bought for Reflex has all the 6 channels working!! Hush Hush! :D
