While going through Futaba's new website i noted that they have 2 lines of Receivers now available : FHSS and FASST
Wanted to know the difference. I thought FHSS was a generic term and FASST was Futaba's implementation of FHSS ?

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

What I read earlier about this is that Futaba wanted to have an "affordable" range also.  They were seeing the marketing momentum achieved by Spektrum's "Bind-N-Fly" stuff, and they want a piece of that action... basically cheaper TX/RX sets that can be bundled with aircraft.

Someone also commented that this is a reaction against the FASST clone stuff, but that does not seem to make sense as the clones of this RF technology will also be released in due course.

FASST will remain their core technology, with the innovations coming in the form of SBus etc.

As the 2.4 Ghz hoping tech is becoming cheaper every day, and more and more players getting into it, they (Futaba) bound to be in that segment. And to be in premium segment they should have some thing which no body else have, i.e S-Bus.

snipp from the site:
"Futaba FASST system does give the best of both worlds because it is not only FHSS but also DSSS"

Bow Thumbs Up >Cheesy >Cheesy >Cheesy

Now where is the controversy ?

Not sure why Futaba would do this - ie to split their products into FASST and FHSS
Shoudnt they just stick to FASST as it is their core technology ?

They can easily bring out low cost FASST radios - with minimal features to cater to low end.

I bet this is going to add to a lot of confusion between Futaba's 2.4G customers . Perhaps thats the strategy to drive more sales ?? Divide people out so they buy more receivers ? lol !

Now where is the controversy ?
No surprise there ! To the purists, FASST would always be called as "frequency agile DSSS".

http://www.rcindia.org/radios-and-receivers/interesting-article-on-2-4-g-and-the-diff-between-dsss-and-fhss/msg2978/#msg2978

The key is that it is "frequency agile", which means it jumps around.  And what is important is that pure DSSS does not do that (like DSM2).

Well, they do not seem to want to reduce the "value" of the "superior" FASST technology. Remember that there are no gimmicks like "more and more satellite receivers as your plane gets bigger" with FASST, just the same 7ch FASST receiver will happily power your biggest turbine jet also.  They do not want to "cheapen" this aspect of FASST, yet want to get into the low end market dominated by Spektrum's BNF.

I betcha! Its like Ferari owning Fiat for common man, not to talk about numerous brands Daimler and GM own!!

Touchwood I have never felt any issue with FASST, both on OEM and cloned Orange Rx. DSM also works fine for my friends, but give a choice, I would stick to Futaba fast. Thanks FrSky for coming up  with the FASST clones - I can use the same Tx on my Foamies on Orange Rx and my Nitro (I just bought one, building another) with OEM.

FHSS is a simple frequency hopping system, will not scan the band at boot and no error checking capabilities and  we discuss about the FASST, it is a Hybrid FH/DSSS channel shifting system, it will scan the band at boot and has error checking and correction capabilities. FASST is what Futaba uses in commercial systems.

OK, banned.  Looks like the comment about FASST was just a pretext for his SEO activities.

SEO is "search engine optimization", where people try to trick search engines like Google to rank their sites/business higher in search rankings using various tricks.  Most search engines value the fact that many other sites link to them, so people try to put maximum number of links from sites unrelated to them, pointing at themselves.

These days, forums have become soft targets.  They join forums just to post links in posts, or add links in their signatures.  I have been deleting such accounts from here quietly, because their posts usually have nothing to do with RC (unlike this one), OR they would just add a link in their signature.

This guy had this link on the above post, and also in his signature

w w w . m y p a r c e l d e l i v r y . c o m/parcel-delivery-service.aspx (parcel delivery service)

which I am pasting here with added spaces which makes it useless in terms of SEO.

This has also become a low cost outsourcing thing now. I have deleted many accounts from Vietnam, where people are paid to join forums (which are captcha protected) just to post SEO links.  I think now many of the IP subnets belonging to some eastern european, ex-USSR (like Ukraine) and some SE asian countries are banned here.
