just want to know one small technical specification of a audio card (MIC) based simulator.
I have E-Fly 100 C radio which is currently in non working condition (short range issue), 72Mhz.
i am trying to connect the tx to FMS. on testing the MIC input i am getting the wave formation on recorder.
but when calibrating the same in FMS controller, there is no indication of any of the control.
MY Question: Is the control of FMS depends on PPM signal of any Tx?
if YES : What if the PPM signal is not in working condition? will the simulator work? (like in my case)

Hi Sandeep
I had exactly the same problem. I assume you are using PPJoy + SPP emulation. Are you able to calibrate the Tx (emulated PPJOY) in the Gamepad/Joystick Control panel in Windows  (joy.cpl) ? if not, you too are  smirfed by the wrong documentation for setting SPP. I would send that errata by evening which should fix this.

Hey Sandeep,
There are two popular ways of using Tx (using the trainer cable) to be used with PC Simulators:
1. USB dongle which installs as a Joystick/Gamepad device) on connecting to the PC. The dongle takes the PPM input from your TX's trainer port (a range of Tx). XTR dongle is an exception as it creates a propriety USB device, not actually a game pad.

2. Using PPJoy (which actually needs a Parallel port, I guess) in conjunction with SPP+ (smart Propo plus) , which emulates a Parallel port and interfaces the mic input of your PC. The PPJoy software creates a 'Virtual' game pad device on your PC and you simply connect the output of your TX trainer port to MIC input of PC.

Please double check if the USB dongle you are  getting supports more than 4 channel, as most of them. supports only 4. I sued to become handicapped with 4 channel as most of Jets in Realflight needs Landing retract channel else they remain retracted.

using PPJoy, I am lucky to get at least 5 channels on my Futaba T7C.

All the best and feel free to contact me if  you get intrested in PPJoy (My 4 channel Al cheapo USB dongle is since lying idle).

Cheers

You should find an appropriate connector Smiley

Try:
1. PS2 connector from an old, defunct mouse (or new Cheesy)
2. S-Video connector (5 PIN most probably else 7 PIN) ....
Where : Gujrati Gali, Koti/Chenoy trade center, Secunderabad.

SD10G is quite a beauty not to fiddle with !!

Hi Sahil,

    Firstly, congratulations on your DIY cable :-).
    Just wanted to ask a question related to your cable hack.
    Did you feel the need to provide a current protection circuit when connecting with the Tx.
    I believe that the Audio circuit typically has an impedance of 8 ohms.
    In that case would that not cause the Tx to overdraw current - this might damage the Tx.

    Gurus ... I would love to hear your assessment of the same.

TIA,
a

yes a attenuation is good to have (a simple two resister attenuator will do ) but i have not used one besides it is working for me also Low impedance or Medium impedance or High impedance characteristics of line-in or mic input on a PC depends upon the  built-in amplifier being used !

Information sharing improves knowledge of both.

Audio loading Issue
==============
The input impedance of the audio card is higher and will not load the PPM output. However, the peak PPM (5V) can be reduced to 1 volt(peak) by using simple resistance potential divider. That will safeguard the input amplifier Mos (inside IC) a little bit more avoiding saturation. You can use 100K & 22K resistors.

Crystal Opening Issue
================
It is not necessary. Basically you are tapping the PPM Audio signals before entering to the transmitter. Removing Transmitter Crystal will malfunction of the RF transmitter block (Free running at an other frequency with low output power Or makes off, depending upon the internal biasing of the module). But that is not problem for your simulator.

Transmitters without proper loading may lead to damage the Tx Block for reflected wave. Here removing the crystal will make the shifting of the frequency to other depending upon the other components. Now if the RF Power Amplifier will work in it's full power, antenna matching will disturb for freq. shift and it may damage. However, this is the basics of old age. Presently all kits are so designed that it can withstand various bad workmanship and I think removing crystal will make no problem.

Just measure the current consumption of Tx with & without crystal. If removing crystal can reduce the current a lot then your Tx RF Module is taking low power (Due to mismatch in tuning) and RF Power  amplifier section are not working with it's power and no problem to you.

You can save Tx battery life.

If the current mismatch is low, keep the crystals in and use the Tx undisturbed.

===============================================================
I recommend if you don't know the details and the Tx is an old one (Basic Tx) with
lots more discrete component, don't remove crystals.

===============================================================
HAM or other expert electronics people can simplify more.
