Hello friends,
I have purchased Avionic RCB 6i.while i was using my transmitter,i don't aware that i have connected 3cell lipo battery instead of 1/2 cell lipo battery.after turning on my transmitter with 3 cell batery, within 2-3 seconds,ICs had burnt.when i opened it i came to a decision that Voltage regulator ic XC 6206 might burnt.
So i tried to buypass that IC by giving 5V to transmitter.according to specifications of IC transmitter must be run on 5v after buypass that IC.
After that modification,i tried to turn on my transmitter.it turned on but all functions except model selection are not working.i can't be able to understand the reason behind it.
Is there any other reason for this?Is there any chance to damage Module/Microcontroller due to over voltage?

what is the microcontroller ?

very few modern microcontroller run on 5v - most of them
run on 3.3v

what was the part number of the voltage reg ?

Microcontroller chip used here is stm8s105c6t6 and damaged ic is voltage regulator ic XC6206p332pr.

well I guess you're out of luck

the voltage regulator is for 3.3 volts - the 8th and 9th digits specify output
voltage as per the data sheet.

the microcontroller is also rated for 3.3 volts.

Re:

The microcontroller is rated for a supply voltage of 2.95V to 5.5V as per datasheet:

Yes you are right. But microcontroller is in series with this 6206 voltage regulator ic.so when i apply over voltage to circuit,IC will ahort circuit and microcontroller will not damage.because today i tried to turnon transmitter without burnt IC.it turned on but all functions except model selection are not working.if microcontroller is damaged then function of model selection should not be able to work.

yes the uc is rated upto 5.5v , I  posted without checking the datasheet.
most stm32's have 3.3v so I assumed that is the max

contact rc bazaar if they can give you a copy of the firmware .... reflash and try.

There is no need to update/upload firmware.Due to over voltage,Hardware may burn.so it is not a software related issue and no need to modify a firmware.

unless your microcontroller is damaged physically   - it is a firmware issue ,
are there any other components which show signs of damage ??

It seems like any other part is not damaged except XC6206 Voltage regulator IC.
I can't understand that how can we relate overvoltage issue with firmware of microcontroller.if i am giving over voltage to XC6206/Microcontroller than it can damage XC 6206/Microcontroller(Hardware),because i think this is Hardware Damaged Issue and it will not affect Firmware of microcontroller.please Explain your answer in detail so that i can understand.

i will not be able to give you a chip level explanation .... but look at it this way

you are saying that no other component apart from the vr is damaged and the tx is working
apart from from the model select fn which is a part of the software.
so logically it is the software that is corrupt.
any way ...what have you got to lose ... ? flashing with original firmware can only better it or leave it in the same state it is now.

Re:

If there is an external EEPROM/flash memory chip to store the model details, that memory chip could have been damaged due to 5 volt(if that IC can only take 3.3V). Check to see if there is any additional IC that you can find on the board.

I Checked that PCB Provided in Transmitter.Only Two 2 ICs are Mounted on PCB.First IC is voltage Regulator IC and Second one is Microcontroller.

I Can Understand that Model Selection function is working but If we Look towards Firmware,it can not affected unless we change it.According to my point of view,Overvoltage can not damage firmware,it can damage hardware only.

Thank you for your reply and involvement. Smiley
