Title: Flysky 9x vs 2nd Hand SANWA RDS8000
Post by: teamnamibia on June 18, 2014, 01:03:51 AM
Seems i am stuck between these 2 choices, a brand new FLYSKY 9x or a second hand SANWA RDS 8000 with no reciever, for the same price, i need some of the older flyers to help me make a decision. :-\

Thanks,
Mike

I hear some people telling me it is better to go for once off quality, but is there really that much of a difference?

IMO The stock 9x is not anywhere close to Sanwa. Unless you're eager to open the 9x and mod it with 3rd party electronics.

At the end of the day, are there major differences in quality? after sales car? range? i am looking for a reciever to last me the next 5 to 6 years.

I mean a tx to last me the next 5 to 6 years, plus it seems the Sanwa Rx is 5 times more expensive than the 9x.

thanks

Mike

The 9x will last a lifetime if cared for properly, but in terms of resilience and reliability, the stock radio module leaves much to be desired. Some people (including myself) have modded 9x where it lacks... Sanwa is quality out of the box, no tinkering required... there are others too, Futaba, JR, Hitec???

PS: Just noticed your post is in the incorrect section. Might want to request mods to move it to the correct section. Better responses and information can be expected

Well its a matter of choice and how much money do you want to spend
One more thing
If a costly radio falls down and breaks vs a cheaper one .....
Happened to one of my friend (it was a futaba )

9x is available for the best price so far at RC Mumbai, that is where you can get it at a good price. search for Chintal somewhere in the forum, as he is the one that is selling for RC Mumbai. for the RDS it is quite expensive in comparison but i think RC Dhamaka stocks similar models, otherwise i know somebody selling a 2nd hand one with no reciever, the one that i wanted to buy. but have since been gifted one by a friend.

for those who do not have a fairy godmother/father
let me give an "aam aadmi" perspective - go for the 9x - why ?? you ask ?

heres why

pros..

its (as you mentioned) 1/5 th the price
you can fit an orange or frsky module
receivers are cheaper ... for stock or orange or frsky
the stock firmware is decent and will fullfill 90% or your flying needs
you can load open source firmware ... supposed to be very powerful (so they say)
you will not have a heart attack if you drop it

cons..

it does not have brand image (who cares .. right ?? )
the hardware (gimbals , feel... etc ) is marginally better ( open to debate )

at the end of the day ... look at it like this

when you recieve a cellphone call do you know if the person is calling from an iphone or
a chinese phone worth rs 1000 /- ?? ....you don't right ??

well neither will your plane. (provided rf protocol is robust )

Saikat Da
Agree with your analysis completely. Once modded and stock radio replaced, the 9x outshines most radios; everyones not open to modding. Your analogy with chinese phones couldn't be better. But most people wouldn't buy a xiaomi phone, even after knowing its value for money..more than the brand values its the 'what if it fails'

Provided the protocol is robust... the protocol is, the link ain't... a frsky module should take care of that.

GS

PS: I don't have a fairy godfather/mother either... have been living on modded 9xs almost all this time

I recently bought a 9x with modded FRsky module and feels like a solid radio.
but i have a definite concern-Receivers. FRSKY receivers tends to be costly, some 2000rupees.(My flysky radio is just 3700/-).
And my question is, is there any other modules, whose RX costs cheaper. i found Spektrum DSM2 RX at just 700rs for 2 pieces. any modules compatible with this RX?

Ashok: you can try Orange Module.

Well, i still haven't received it, supposed to get it this weekend from somebody who i have never met and spoke to for the first time when i called to give him my address. I will not give any names until i get the Transmitter(that way nobody steals my fairy godfather from me). Some people with good hearts and intentions really exist out there.

Well Chintal, i am highly impressed with your prices, i just hope your service and after sales care is as awesome if, if so you will be getting plenty more referrals from me.
