I am sooo disappointed today. Since the last couple of days I seem to have been having a problem with the throttle trim tab on my Futaba 10C. The trim moves up properly, but when pulling it down, it works erratically.
My radio is less than a year old, and always been carefully used ( always in the box, and cleaned after every flight etc etc ) , I am soo pissed off.

My only solution here is to ship it to Futaba USA who are willing to service it for free ( since it is covered in warranty ) . I plan to ask them to ship it back to a US address, from where I can collect next month when I travel.
But thats going to leave me for over a month without radio !! and no flying !!!!

Just wanted to share that things like this can happen with top brands and products ! .

Wonder is any kind of "cleaning of the contacts" is an option.  If under warranty, your current course of action is most sensible though.

Yes I had thought about cleaning the contacts. But read in the other forum about a post by someone that these switches are sealed and difficult to get to the real contacts.
The only drawback in sending it back to Futaba for replacement is that I will be left without flying for nearly a month. Guess I should revert back to building for sometime.

Just sent my Tx via TNT to Futaba Service Center USA, with a heavy heart.
Will collect it in May end when I travel. So one month with no flying !

Hi

This seems to be a problem with Futaba 10Cs....two of us in Bombay are victims for sure.

The other gentleman showed me the way. Open it up, dab petrol (nothing else) on the contact switch and keep pressing for a while. I did it just last week and it worked. And no seeming damage anywhere ! And I took a couple of flights later as well.

Now, I wouldn't recommend it because you ARE taking out the PCB which is right above the trim switches and the whole thing comes off etc etc...so at your own risk !

Cheers

Its very frustrating to see this problem on one of the best radios. I eventually sent it to the Service Center, in the US  and they replaced the trim tab. Though it works fine now, i think the other trim tab might be on the way out as sometimes i need to juggle it to get it to work.

I have seen at least one instance of removing the battery and then applying one quick squirt of WD40 fix it.  The radio was not turned on for a few hours after this.

Did not go into the pros and cons of this, but it did work.

Short term solution: squirt of WD 40

Long term solution: replace the tactile switch. Easily available, at least in metros.

Since this is common, what is that one should ask for in the electronics parts shops ?  Any specific name or part number ?

I also saw similar issues with the slider pots on the bottom side of a 9C Super.

The switches are "ordinary" tactile switches. They come in a variety of sizes w.r.t the mounting pins spacing and height. You will have to remove the old one and take it as a sample. If someone can send me one I will organise enough for all and sundry!

I also saw similar issues with the slider pots on the bottom side of a 9C Super.

Slider trims usually just rotate the control pots themselves, mechanically. Maybe they have separate pots in the 9C. In which case you would have to change the pots.

I dont think i wud risk trying to send mine back to futaba , as re importing it would be difficult and my warranty is over . . It is a beautiful radio and its a shame that the trims act erratic .

@sushil . they still havent failed  completely so when they do . i might consider sending the switches to u Smiley

and Agustine Smiley i have a skysport too and i agree they last . but its unfortunate i cant fly a heli with it Sad

Heli=Diff parts flying together in close formation

It's not how clean you keep your radio it's about how much pressure you apply on trims when you are multitasking (flying and trimming at the same time.

Keep those thumbs light and keep your radio error free  Thumbs Up

Don't quite agree. The problem is oxidation of the switch contacts and increased pressure will, if at all, help rather than hinder.

This happened with my Futaba 7C too! I wonder other OEM Tx owners are facing similar problem, else we really need to reach Futaba Quality department.

I simply replaces the micro switches under the Tabs. I could not get 'Hight quality' switches in the local market, else I would have replaced all the 8 switches under tabs.

Yeah. Futaba has for sure made a mess on the quality of the trim tabs. Never had problems before and now everyone's complaining !
