In between saurabh is helping me put in a frsky module in an turnigy 9x tx...

Anyone used a frsky module ?

I have an RDS8000. My first and only radio.
The good side is that it is very easy to program, I was able to get through all basic programming and some of the advanced stuff without even consulting the manual.

Cool Rohit. Was expecting you Cheesy. How about the range. And the manual say always keep the two antenna 90 deg to each other. Will I face reduce in range if I dont do that. Does the tx beeps if the rx goes out of range.

I always keep my rx antenna perpendicular to each other, so don't know how the range will change if I don't keep it that way  Grin

According to this : http://mikegoesflying.wordpress.com/2008/04/11/actual-faqs-for-rds8000-airtronics/ the range is over 4000 feet.

I really don't know the answer to the last question and would want to know that.

I know I would be bit harsh here , but it would be really silly to ask such a question, as no company would put such 'Telemetry' kind a feature as an 'Easter Egg' for people to discover, and not brag of such feature in BOLD.

In all regards, the current RDS8000 does not have ANY Telemetry feature. A classic requirement of such telemetry feature is having a 'Two-Way' communication between Tx and Rx.
AFAIK, only Hitech and FrSky readily have such telemetry feature in its 'commodity' models. Other OEM like JR, Sanwa, Futaba etc are in different phase of offering telemetry, but I suspect any 'economical' models like RDS8000, 7C, 9x etc would have them any sooner.

 Smiley
Dx8 already has a telemetry feature.
But one thing I like about frsky is that firmware can easily be updated by usb and lots of google code readily available.
Not sure if others also have these capability.

Ok read praveen's docs

made me feel good: 'the Airtronic system appears to have been virtually problem-free at this stage' while the others are having these issue. Ya I have heard that they are lacking in the features. But what kind of features. Since I don't own any high end tx. I coundn't understand what is missing.

May in few Heli Functions and advanced Glider/Sailplane functions like multiple Flaps etc. You may ping RDS8000 owners  like Vinay to know more. But this Radio should serve you long enough before you feel  you have outgrown it.

Does the RDS8000 supports the RSSI (Reciever signal strength indication) to be feed to OSD?

You can check the receiver diagram for an analog rssi out. If its not present  you can make a virtual rssi out by converting the lost packet indication to analog voltage by a rc filter.

Usually the OEM Radio manufacturers care a damn about providing a RSSI output (too many pins already!!)

You have to hack  you way in. A great thread on RSSI output pin of various Rx

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=923419

<Edit>
Another Nobel way to get RSSI from almost all 2.4G which has a RED led to show signal loss:

Hi all,

Some time back, my Futaba 6EX went kaput. I tried getting it repaired, but it seems that IC has been damaged :-( (any help / suggestions here would be very very welcome  Hats Off).
Since i needed to buy a new Radio, I was looking at the RDS8000 as well.
Could you please let me know any pitfalls of the RDS8000. I am a relative newbie, however, the cost of a new Futaba 6EX Tx in Delhi is being quoted as ~ Rs. 8000, while the RDS8000 with Tx + Rx + 4 Servos is being quoted at Rs. 12880. Thus the dilemma :-).

Thanks in Anticipation for your responses  Bow

Though this would be thread hijacking. RDS8000 is muich superior to Futaba 6EX and comparable to Futaba 7C/Spektrum DX7. If you have budget, go for it.

People are successfully using Orange FASST receiver with most Futaba 2.4G Tx including 6EX. They cost $28 + $3 shipping from Hobby King. You can try Anam_funny/VK singh if they have that in stock.

No Way.... Futaba and JR/Spektrum  are THE most popular Radio Systems. Over that Futaba never needed to Rev their FAAST protocol to v2 or vX!!
And accept that Futaba 7C is better in few feature than RDS8000, even with 1 channel less.

What a wastage of time reading Idiotically silly reviews(pdf) posted couple of posts above, if futabas can work fine in Dusty, Sultry hot Indian weather they can work fine any where in world. Futaba is famous for making radio controls for industrial applications, where tonnes of load hangs in air on radio's mercy and so do lives of people working there. So if they work well there, they can any where, of course with small rc planes.

RCer world over have tested Futaba's orange receiver i.e FRSKY receiver and vouched for it's reliability.

Do any body aware of Sanwa rx clones?

So clone lovers go for Futaba (Bio-tech is advanceing you know)LOL

HI aXedge, Futaba 6ex for  :Rs:8000? with or without receiver?, if it's with receiver jump for it, and help others by posting link of the seller here.
