Hello,

this is my first post here.

Atlast i have got my funds in order to start what i wanted to from long time back.
i have spend a lot of time reading and referring a lot of guides/articles and sites.

now i am starting out buying stuff to start out.

i am looking to build Blu Baby trainer and F-22 Raptor from the rcgroups forum.

i had shortlisted a setup from rotor.co.
LASER 4

so they offered me
Optic 6

so optic 6 is kinda out of budget for me though i can wait for a month and spend that amount on it.

while doing some research i found this
FS-TH9X

has any one used this and tried it, i havent heard / read about it, so thought should ask out.

plz help me on this what should i buy.

Learning to Fly

Hi, welcome to rcindia.

Actually, this is a question that gets asked every time and actually there is no one answer that can be considered as gospel truth. Its like trying to buy a car and then asking do I buy a Maruti or a Benz?

It all depends on the budget, your view on what all you plan to do in near future in terms of flying. As far as my knowledge goes, basic flying needs only 4 channels, then some folks add 2 more for flaps and landing gears. Beyond this its mostly fancy stuff that does little to enhance the flying capabilities of the model (some folks can argue).

So my two bits, go in for a stable/proven Tx of 6 channel which has options of inexpensive Rx available. Remember, your Tx would be 1 but you may own many models for lookout for Rx cost as well

shubham, HK claims that they have reflashed it with updated firmware. Have you seen both togather ( Turnigy9x and FS 9x)? If so, have you noticed any change in functions, bugs etc.? I have been using Turnigy 9x since 8 months with out a problem. Infact I have two of them Cheesy and no complaints.

my opinion only on Turnigy 9x or any equivalent radio
well it only matters on budget ! Indian Rupees Turnigy 9x is a good radio!
if you know little bit electronics and to re-flash  firmware with Er9x it can beat any radio of that class.it will be a great radio!
even i have two radios one Eurgle 9x(Flashed with Er9x) and Turnigy 9x yet to be flashed!
But believe me even my Futaba 10c lags some features! with Turnigy flashed with Er9x!

its simple, follow this method

http://code.google.com/p/th9x/wiki/installation_de

and for programmer you can use any pocket AVR burner or Atmel chip programmer!
and i brought programmer from http://www.nskelectronics.com/avr_dude.html
cost :350/-
very easy to do it!
if you have knowledge of soldering and electronics components than you can do it yourself!

Information sharing improves knowledge of both.

I can be in the favor for 9 Channel not only for it's mixing on site options with visual display.
And rx is cheap too. Head Scratching
even without re-flashing to Er9x.  Grin

Thanks Praveen, I found this link http://www.aeromodelitis.com/ficheros/Flashing%20the%209x.pdf and ordered an AVR programmer ( http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9825 ) already. Thanks a lot for replying. I might ask more help once I receive it.

Did the mod yesterday night. I used a D9 male to female set for the fixed interface as I couldnt find any other suggested connectors. I have already started liking it. Will test it out this weekend.

Hehe, thanks Praveen. Appreciate your kind words. Man, I love it. Went through couple of tubes and pretty easy. I should say easy, neat and clean mixes. Will try it out at the field this weekend. Now I have two Tr9x, one with er9x and one with stock FW. I dont feel like using the stock one Wink later I might convert that one too. But am holding it until I am comfortable with the new FW plus I want to make sure the trainer code works since I intend to teach my daughter using it.

Though everything else works fine, I have problem connecting it to the simulator dongle. At first it turned on when the audio cable was inserted. Then I couldn't see it on the simulator (pheonix 3). After few minutes it turned off itself. It turns on when I switch the power on siwtch. But still no simulator. I have created a new model with 4ch template and changed the ppm settings to 4ch. Still no luck Sad Any clues?

Well, I figured it out Smiley I tried moving the stereo cable back and forth and it seems like it works (turns on only) when one channel (mono channel) is connected. It used to work fine on the stereo cable. Strange! I will try a proper mono cable if time permits.

Sam i think you know , when you are using Tx for sim you need to remove module !
and yes even i have tried with stereo cable , but you need to use mono only!

Oh yes Praveen, I have used it with the stock fw. And worked fine with the stereo cable. But after the mod, its not accepting stereo where as we haven't done anything on the trainer port or anything related. Anyhow, as far as its working, am happy Smiley

PS* I would like to encourage every one who has this Tx to upgrade to the er9x or other offerings. I second Praveen on his earlier post suggesting  9x owners to upgrade. A pocket programmer, a good soldering iron and a pair of steady hands are all that it takes. Any future update is just few clicks on the mouse Cheesy

I tried it with my new scratch built EPP Yak54 30" (Gene Bond's design) with dual aileron servos. Setting it for dual aileron took a minute or so  Giggle . Getting both servos to work for dual aileron was just copying and dragging it to the other channel!!! where as in the stock version you have to do a long list of mixes for dual aileron and flaps  Bang Head Glad I did the upgrade  Grin
