Title: HELP! Thunder Tiger Phoenix ST 2 Tx eating through batteries.
Post by: ajit4647 on April 14, 2011, 11:30:35 PM
Hey guys. i have a Thunder tiger Sparrowhawk DX and a Thunder tiger Phoenix ST 2.

both of them come with the same Ace cougar 2.4 ghz radio system.

while the sparrowhawk transmitter is fine the phoenix transmitter runs thru batteries at a devastating rate.

it drains a set of brand new batteries even before i manage to drain a 3600 Mah NiMH battery installed in the truck.

just as a test i ran both the models at the same time and the sparrowhawk tx takes atleast 5 times more for the red warning lights to come on.

any help as to solve this issue will be greatly appreciated.

First inter change the batteries of the two TXs . This way u will know the problem is with batt or Tx.
If batt bad ,its ok just get new ones.If Tx bad --big problem.

@ Jitender and iamahuman - the batteries are regular AA batteries. so even if one set was bad the rest should have performed well. will try with a good set of rechargable's.

@Traxxrc1 - sadly even with Duracell batteries the tx uptime was short. it was longer than with normal batteries, but still shorter than the second tx with normal batteries.

will try with the rechargebles and post the results.

nope. same problem. normal or duracell or rechargeble. does not matter. it eats thru them.

so finally just decided to bind my other tx to this rx and now have been using the same set of batteries for almost 5 car battery cycles and still on green.

so definitely a  problem with the tx.

took it to the place where i bought it and the guy did not even try to understand. only thing he kept repeating over and over again - sir this is a very high powered model. it will require a lot of batteries.   :banghead:

when i told him that the other tx was not having a prob he just insisted that i was just very lucky to get so much of run time for the other tx.

so just decided to let it go and mail TT directly and see what they have to say because this guy is just not budging and unwilling to give his distrubutors name.

That guy must be an idiot. These things actually use very less power. The Traxxas 2.4 GHz High Output Tx I have been using has run on the same set of batteries since October 2010.Now they're gone.Need to recharge them.

I too agree with you that your Tx is bad.Hope your problems have been solved.

BTW,is your phoenix any fun after the E-Maxx Brushless Edition?

well to be honest i have been taking the phoenix out only so that a friend of mine could use it when he comes out with us. not too confident of giving anyone the e-maxx so instead i let them play with the phoenix.

anyway latest update i did some bashing with the e-maxx a few days ago and tried the same jump with the phoenix.  :banghead:

shld not have tried it. blew the rear right shock cap and the bent the front right shock shaft.

E-maxx on the other hand cleared some pretty good jumps. only damage was some scratches to the body. will post a vid once i am done editing a bit.

The TT distributer in India is Model Art at bangalore.

hey guys. i just found out why my tx has been draining batts. in reality its not been draining batts at all.

the connector on the battery tray has a bit of play. and the tray is not fixed so as to allow packs to be used as well. so whenver the tx was shaken or jerked i guess the tray moved and the connector along with it.

a small piece of 2 sided tape on the connector fixed it and now its working fine. damn i threw away so many good batteries thinking they were drained  :banghead:
