Depending how bad the wreck is, you may even damage the Transmitter by just switching it on. If the antenna coil has damaged and short circuited the core with shield (Ground), it may fry the Tx RF amp.

Instead of trying yourself, see if you can find a WiFi router repair guy. The Antenna used in WiFi routers are that of exact frequency, though they may differ in Impedance due to Amp's final stage design. They may even replace the antenna with the WiFi one. Only then do a range test.

All the best for getting back action soon.

thank you so much for the advice, actully i opend and saw the transmitter, its intact inside and no short circuit possible, but I want to konw even if I want to use it as it is, does it have a low range or glitches during flight problem? My flying range is not much and I fly in a very samll radium of 50-80 meters.

So you mean it is only the plastic that broke ? You can just use CA to fix it, or get a replacement.

If the antenna wire itself is intact, and stays as a single strand, range should not be affected.

Title: Broken Antinna of Spektrum DX 6i
Post by: asinghatiya on October 17, 2010, 09:18:01 AM
Friends, some how I managed to break my Tx Antinna  :banghead: My son (2 years old) started the breaking process and I completed the same. :giggle:.

Today I went to fly with this broken Antinnea, I thought I'll manage it, but it was a disaster. After takeoff, at probably 150 feet, It got out of range and engine cut with no controls. My ready-40 smashed the ground on a wall with max possible speed and its wing was splitted in two parts and major damage to fuslage.

Picturs will show the broken antinna. I need your help in getting a new Antinnea. Few days back a friend on this forum suggested me that I can use a WiFi Router Antinnea for the same, but after this accident I dont want to take this risk, Can any one please suggest me from where I can purchase a replacement Antinna for this Tx.

Thanks

Wow ! You never mentioned in your earlier thread that the antenna wire itself was damaged :(  In that case, no one would have advised you to fly like that !  If you had posted these pictures earlier, that would have saved you severe grief :banghead:

I am sure you can get replacements from Horizon Hobby.  You can check locally with Indian Hobbies to see if they carry parts, or arrange to get you one.

thanks you so much, this exactly what I want, but from international site www.heliproz.com, I purchased one which cost me INR 454.

Now they havent charged any shipping, anyways I have already made a payment so lets wait and watch if they deliver it. In case if they dont (in that I loose my 454 Rs) then I will buy is from the the site you have mentioned. Thanks once again for this. Will keep posting on the updates.

They will charge u shipping. U will get a message later on asking for additional payment but rest assured it will be lower than the rotor price. I had gone through the same procedure. First made the payment for the part then got a mail asking for shipping charges.

Hey got my Antinna from Heli Proz. and the total cost i incurred was INR 850 inclusive everything.
Good thing was and that was a kool surprise to me, that I received two antinnas (on packet it was mentioned quantity 1) in the price of 1. And I am sure it's by mistake only.

I installed it and the flight was awesome as it worked perfectly.

In this Antinnea there is just a small wire but if its broken its range is redused to less than 100 feet. So I would like to suggest to those who have got this Antinna broken/damaged never take the risk of flying.

Hello!   :salute:
The Aerial of my Rx (Came with HK 2.4Ghz 6Ch V2 Mode1) came out while trying to fit in fuselage. I cut the insulation (Plastic around the wire) about 2~3 mm and re-soldered it. But I am not sure in what effect would it cause on the range...?
Can anybody please help me...?

Do a range check.  Since you re-used the wire and only removed a very small part, it should not cause much difference.

Could be out of topic....  8-)

After re-soldering the antenna of Rx, I tested the range sitting in my house. After getting 2-3 Rooms away from the Tx, the Rx indication light shuts off but it still caught the signal when moved the receiver up or Down(As the light blows and shuts off at the moment...)

The question I have is: should the radio be tested in open field or could be tested inside the built-up structure like my house...?
As the signal of my Radio lost after getting 3 to 4 walls in the way...

Please Help Me...!

You need line of sight. All the more important for 2.4Ghz.

Dear sumeet,

The Range test please take as MR. Anwar told. In Line of sight. And of course in moderate weather, not in humid(Actually very humid) weather. I am waiting to know the result.

It should be more or less similar of your earlier range.

Thanks

Thanks.
