Hello guys, today i received Fly Sky TH9x from Rcbazaar.  Smiley I noticed that the switch on the top right corner, when pressed returns to original position. Its not like other switches 0 to 1 and 1 to 0. It returns back to zero itself  Huh? Is this defective ? or it is designed that way  Head Scratching  ..

Thanks

Heli=Diff parts flying together in close formation

it's the trainer switch, The trainer holds that switch on his remote and the control of the craft shifts to the trainee and as soon as the trainer let's go of the switch it moves back to the orignal position giving control of the craft back to the trainer.

There are many simulator softwares available in the market which works with all TX as they come with the connector.

If it's a 3.5 mm jack connector, you can just just get PPJOY and use FMS, HelisimRC, AFPD.

RC Deskpilot is another good one that is free. Works with PPJoy/Smartpropoplus and connects to the turnigy 9x via a 3.5mm cable (mono/stereo both work) - The turnigy9x is same as the flysky 9x

www.smartpropoplus.com - Download and install, connect the Tx to the mic in port on your computer, and it should be recognized as a joystick. Open up the sim program and select the PPJoy/Smartpropoplus joystick

Cool. I do not know of any sim that has a quadcopter model in it. It is good that you're doing a DIY mono cable. However, keep in mind that you will have to 'really' shield the mono cable from interference. The mic on your computer is really prone to even small noises introduced and so is the output from the Tx. Even touching it with bare hands introduces stray signals. It is helpful to go in for the readymade cables, they seem to work better. All the best

It was not available in market.  Undecided  So i got a jack nd soldered. And its shielded. So i think there wont be much interference. Else i have to find a readymade one by tomo !

Hi Girish,
Tried the method you have mentioned, Installed rcdeskpilot & ppjoy / smartpro plus. connecting a male to male 3.5 stereo jack cable from my FSTH9x to my laptop with Win-7. But don't see any joystick getting detected (Tried with different cables). But an external microphone works on same port.
Also tried the methods mentioned in http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1428.
But no luck.
BTW what's the output we get in the simulator port? is it just the Rx, Tx & Gnd?
If these are the output, we can might as well connect to a USB port via CP210x USB UART interface.
Any idea, Is this what will be there USB dongle given along with simulators?

Hi Sudhakar,
Here's the lowdown,

The TX port emits PPM, +ve and Gnd and not Tx, Rx and Gnd (so a USART maybe interfaced). Out of these three the PPM and -ve are enough for generating the required potential difference in the sound card input

The diagram below can explain what works at the software and hardware layers

+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
SOFTWARE -       >        OS         >   Sim Software   >  ppJoy (virtual Joystick) >    SmartPropoPlus > Audio Driver
HARDWARE - proc ^                                                    | - - - - Physical JS                                   ^ Audio Port  > PPM from TX
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

When you installed smartpropoplus, you'd have got some utilities on your computer. Winscope and RC Audio are the important ones as they will show what signal is being seen by the Audio Driver. Besides that, the following has worked for me in the past for this setup:

1) Ensure that no other microphones (such as array ones built in laptops) are active. If need be, disable them from the control panel
2) Turn up microphone volume, microphone boost etc.
3) Use winscope to analyze signal received (it should be a square wave with a 20-22 ms frame)
4) Use windows sound recorder to see if anything is being recorder (it should record a blippy noise, something like krrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)
5) I've also noticed that using the +ve and PPM instead of -ve and PPM works sometimes

As for USB dongles, the commercial USB simulators have samplers (ADCs similar to sound cards) with special firmware written that is supposed to do only AD conversion and nothing else like sound recording or generation etc. If one is able to write such a firmware that reads this PPM, generates USART compliant Rx and Tx signals and feeds them to a CP2012, which is interfaced to USB, yes, we technically have a sim dongle, but a lot of reverse engineering will need to be done to understand what should be generated on the Tx/Rx lines that is understandable by the sim software. I believe all dongles use proprietary protocols, atleast at the transport levels.

All the best
GS

PS: The dashed line in the above diagram shows where a Physical Joystick stands in the pipeline. This combo simply replaces the Physical joystick with a Virtual Joystick and Smartpropoplus pushes the PPM data read from the sound card as valid joystick input.. In shorter words, SPP is the equivalent software implementation for that firmware in commercial USB dongles

If you have a realtek driver, also ensure it does not tie up various mics as one...should be in advanced device settings
