Title: How many channels the FMS Simulator Cables Support ?
Post by: ujjwaana on November 18, 2009, 03:57:41 PM
Just got a FMS Sim PPM to USB cables:
http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110440165357&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I see almost similar cable sold at LHS
http://cgi.ebay.in/FMS-CABLE-FOR-FP_W0QQitemZ150373672252QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_203?hash=item2302f8253c

Has anybody used similar item ? (I think all these sub INR 1000 cables have generic hardware - PPM to USB smd chip) . The problem is that the Joy Stick control panel (joy.cpl) even after calibration shows only the 4 stick axis response with my T7C Futaba Tx. The landing, flaps switches and the Trim have no response!!

I was better off with my home made cable (made with Bug Strip) which I used with SPP and PPJoy, where at least 6 channels were visible!

Any directions ?

Try it out by repeating the same number sequence as the 1st four channels for the second  for channels from 5,6,7 and 8 .
Eg if Ch 1 is 4 , ch 2 is 3 , ch 3 is 1 , ch 4 is 2 then repeat this sequence  as ch 5 : 4 , ch 6 : 3 , ch 7 : 1 and ch 8 : 2.

I tried it once my self and it worked and suggested it to some one and he also said it worked  but don't know for sure if it will work every time .

If it works let us know if not may be look for another solution.

Sai

PS : BTW I use these cables  for the G4 and have no issues

Most cables are 4ch. The ace rc ones are 6ch.

I was thinking of buying the Esky Flight Simulator 4ch trainer with tx USB. Anybody has this if yes can you share your thoughts on this whether its a good buy ?

I am a little skeptical about its quality and would this really help in learning to fly ?

Planning to buy it for my wife, making my life easy  ;D

thanks

It is a good buy. A win2k comp doesn't always detect mine on start up. Need to unplug and plug it again. That is the only issue I have seen.

DON'T buy a 4 channel Sim Controller - Go for 6 channel one... Just any make should do ... Actually you do need 2 extra channel for Retracts/Flaps as you wont stop Sims just after your  first flight. Its good to fly your newly bought ARF on Sim before taking them off. If you fly Jets on Sim (G4/G5), use of Retracts and Flaps are crucial for right flight characteristics and easy landing.

Try Sai or Mr Sanjeev of RC Dhamaka - he can get you one in India. Though been faced much trouble importing a real Tx from US, I wont advice you to try that. May be if no LHS offers you, you may try getting one from numerous e-Bay stores, as technically it is a NON-RADIO device and should pass as a Computer Game Pad. But the seniors on the forum may better comment on that.

Vinay got his SIM controller from US and it is 6 channel one. I am jealous of him as even my (much better in feel and quality) real Futaba 7 Channel can't match that purely due non availability of a real 6 Channel SIM cable. The 2 FMS and 1 XTR cables I have are ALL 4 channel only :(
